Mortal Kombat 1's first Kombat Pack was made available for purchase at the same time as the base game, though each character will be released incrementally. Players who purchased the Premium Edition of the game will receive each new character as they are added. Even before the base game was released, the Kombat Pack's trailer was showcased unveiling the lineup of upcoming characters. These characters included several faces from Mortal Kombat 1's story mode, including Quan Chi and Ermac, as well as a few big surprises. Among these surprise character reveals were Invincible's Omni-Man, DC's Peacemaker, and The Boys' Homelander. These guest characters open the door for another potential crossover with one particular actor.

Karl Urban is a renowned actor with a long-running career who has become increasingly iconic over the years. Not many actors have quite as diverse a resume as Karl Urban, as he is known for his memorable roles in various major franchises over the years including The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, The Chronicles of Riddick, Dredd, Doom, and most recently, The Boys. His character in The Boys, Billy Butcher, rivals Homelander as the most recognizable face from the series. His role in The Boys as well as his ties to the Mortal Kombat universe open the door for some interesting additions to Mortal Kombat 1's roster.

The Case For Karl Urban DLC In Mortal Kombat 1

Karl Urban as Billy Butcher in The Boys

Homelander's addition to Mortal Kombat 1 creates an opportunity to feature another character from the acclaimed series, Billy Butcher. Karl Urban's version of the character would be an interesting addition in the form of a Kameo Fighter or even a main roster character. This would allow players to pit the two popular characters from The Boys together in Mortal Kombat. This alone would be a great option for Karl Urban DLC, but it doesn't need to end there.

The second DLC opportunity would take advantage of Karl Urban being set to play Johnny Cage in the upcoming sequel to 2021's Mortal Kombat film. The release of the film will create a perfect opportunity to feature cosmetics based on the movie in Mortal Kombat 1. As there is already a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage that comes complete with alternate voice lines from the man himself, it would be realistic to see a Karl Urban Johnny Cage skin do the same. Urban is no stranger to video game material, as he even had a brief stint as the protagonist in the 2005 live-action Doom film.

Among the many leaks circulating in regard to future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC fighters is one name in particular, the Doom Slayer. Nothing is confirmed at this time, but if Doom Guy is added to Mortal Kombat 1 then that opens the door to yet another Karl Urban character to be added. His character in Doom was a marine by the name of John Grimm, who through the events of the film essentially became the movie's Doom Guy. Though it is a long shot, it would be fun to see multiple Karl Urban characters fighting on screen. There is also the potential for interesting pre-fight dialogue between the multiple Urbans.

What lies in store for Mortal Kombat 1's future is still uncertain at this time, but whatever ends up coming to the game will certainly draw attention from longtime fans and potential newcomers. The various guest characters that have been revealed for MK1 open the door for a plethora of interesting additions in the future. New rumors are gaining ground every day, so players have plenty to keep an eye on.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available now for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.
