Highlights

  • Homelander from The Boys has been confirmed as one of Mortal Kombat 1's DLC characters, fitting perfectly with his brutal and psychopathic nature.
  • With his powers of laser vision, Homelander's Fatality could be inspired by his final scene with Madelyn Stillwell, burning through her eyes and skull.
  • Other potential Fatalities for Homelander could include discombobulating his opponent like he did to Blindspot and brutally punching through their gut like he did to Black Noir.

The breakout star of The Boys, and now one of the most lovingly hated villains in all of entertainment history, Antony Starr's Homelander has become one of the most popular comic book characters of all time. A petulant, narcissistic, and psychopathic murderer, Homelander is one of the best iterations of the "Superman but evil" comic book trope, with his gradual descent into pure madness being one of The Boys' most compelling arcs. And such a popular, brutal character is only a natural fit for Mortal Kombat 1.

After months of rumors and leaks, Homelander has finally been confirmed as one of Mortal Kombat 1's DLC characters, appearing alongside iconic comic characters Peacemaker and Omni-Man in the game's first Kombat Pack. Like Mortal Kombat always does with its guest characters, Homelander will likely receive a unique moveset tailored to his in-universe abilities, along with a number of Fatalities, all of which will likely be references to the comics, or to The Boys Amazon show.

Mortal Kombat 1: Homelander's Laser Eye Surgery Fatality

Homelander Stillwell

Along with his super strength and super speed, one of Homelander's most used powers is his laser vision, capable of slicing through human skin, muscle, and bone with absolute ease. During The Boys show, Homelander is constantly shown lasering his way through crowds of opponents, severing limbs, cutting people in half, and generally leaving a trail of death and destruction in his wake. But when it comes to modeling a Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality from Homelander's laser vision, his final scene with Madelyn Stillwell should be the obvious point of inspiration. After an intense conversation, Homelander decides to turn on Stillwell, holding her head in both hands and keeping it horrifyingly still as he uses her laser vision to burn through her eyes and skull.

Mortal Kombat 1: Homelander's Discombobulate Fatality

Homelander Blindspot

One of the more light-hearted acts of violence Homelander commits can be found in Season 2 of The Boys. Trying to find a replacement for Translucent, Ashley brings a new recruit to Homelander. Called Blindspot, this Daredevil pastiche is blind, but can essentially see using the sounds around him. Though he seems pleased at first, Homelander quickly slaps his hands against Blindspot's ears, making him both deaf and now blind all over again. Though Blindspot technically doesn't die here, this move could easily be translated over to a Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality.

Mortal Kombat 1: Homelander's Gut Punch Fatality

The Boys Vought International Black Noir Death

The Boys has plenty of deaths over its three seasons, but by far one of the most upsetting is Black Noir's demise. After discovering that Black Noir knew that Soldier Boy was Homelander's father and kept it from him all these years, Homelander responds with a vengeful punch to the gut. Though, with his super stregth, this punch goes straight through Black Noir's abdomen, and when he pulls his hand out, Black Noir's guts follow. It's one of the more gruesome Homelander kills, and it would make for an excellent Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality.

Mortal Kombat 1: Homelander's Jump Fatality

Homelander Jump

One of the darkest Homelander scenes in The Boys occurs during the third season's second episode and starts his true decline into madness. The news is reporting on a woman getting ready to jump off a rooftop and Homelander reluctantly rushes to help talk her down. Homelander is surprisingly successful in this, but things take a grim turn when he learns that Stormfront, his literal Nazi girlfriend, has just died. Homelander insists that the woman jump, and when she refuses to, he gives her a push with his laser vision. It's a bit too dark, even for Mortal Kombat 1, but a Fatality in which Homelander takes an opponent to a rooftop and pushes them off could probably work.

Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to release September 19, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
