The official reveal date for Mortal Kombat 1's gameplay has been confirmed. NetherRealm Studios has been teasing the announcement of Mortal Kombat 1 for some time, and this past week it finally delivered. A cinematic trailer introducing the fighting game, revealing it will reset the timeline of the Mortal Kombat franchise, was shared this past Thursday. Fans were left pondering what Mortal Kombat 1's gameplay really looks like, though. Luckily, they won't have to wait long to find out.The announcement trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 piqued many fans' interest, to say the least. In the trailer, there are just over ten seconds of cinematic combat focusing on the extreme violence that the Mortal Kombat franchise is well known for. There's even a cinematic Fatality shown. How much this CG action looks like Mortal Kombat 1's actual gameplay isn't clear, but the CG shown is so impressively detailed that it's difficult not to be excited about a gameplay reveal.RELATED: Rumor: Mortal Kombat 1 Could Feature Travis Scott and Megan FoxRather than keep fans waiting, NetherRealm Studios has confirmed when Mortal Kombat 1's gameplay will officially be unveiled. Confirmation was delivered via the Summer Game Fest Twitter account, which posted, "Don't miss the world gameplay premiere of Mortal Kombat 1 when Ed Boon joins Geoff Keighley live on stage at Summer Game Fest on Thursday, June 8." It seems that Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon will be attending the June digital presentation and will share Mortal Kombat 1's gameplay reveal himself.

The Summer Game Fest, for those who aren't familiar, is an online games showcase that has supplanted the in-person E3 convention which historically took place in early June. This year's Summer Game Fest is expected to run two hours and will feature game announcements and reveals from dozens of partners. NetherRealm Studios will be one such partner. The gameplay reveal could happen at any point within those two hours.

The gameplay for Mortal Kombat 1 isn't likely to reinvent the wheel. Mortal Kombat has been a staggering success for over 30 years, after all. But there are questions that do need to be answered. This is the first current-gen Mortal Kombat, so it'll be exciting to see what Mortal Kombat 1 looks like on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Mortal Kombat 1 is also launching on Switch, though, which could have interesting ramifications.

NetherRealm Studios has also said that Mortal Kombat 1 will be adding new gameplay features. That includes what NetherRealm calls a Kameo system where players choose both their fighter and an ally to assist in fights. If NetherRealm wanted to shake up Mortal Kombat's traditional gameplay, the timeline reboot Mortal Kombat 1 is doing looks like a great opportunity. Players can see for themselves what that looks like during the Summer Game Fest on June 8.

Mortal Kombat 1 releases September 19 on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
