Mortal Kombat 1 has continued the franchise's tradition of bringing intense, over-the-top action to the masses. The long-running series of fighting games has been a staple in the fighting genre since the 90s, and the launch of Mortal Kombat 1 saw the franchise get a soft reboot with an all-new timeline.

Kameo fighters are a new system that Mortal Kombat 1 has introduced to the franchise. Mortal Kombat 1's Kameo fighters can be tagged into fights for an extra bit of assistance that can give players a bigger edge against the competition. The game's Kameo fighters can serve as a useful tool to get ahead in a match, and there have been some great characters given this role, like the recent addition of Mavado. However, one upcoming Kameo fighter that looks incredibly intriguing is Ferra, and she has some major differences.

How Ferra is Similar and Different in Mortal Kombat 1

Ferra Without Torr

Ferra was an interesting character because she was part of a team. She rode on the back of the brutish juggernaut known as Torr. While Torr provided the muscle, she offered the brains, and the two fought as one entity in a symbiotic relationship. However, this time around, it seems as though Ferra will be without her partner Torr and will instead use various characters as piggyback companions. There are some rumors about future Kameo fighters, but Ferra has been confirmed, although her release date has yet to be revealed.

In Mortal Kombat X, Ferra and Torr were a packaged deal, so seeing her character without his accompaniment is a little jarring since the two were so intertwined. However, Mortal Kombat 1 seems like it is still staying true to the essence of Ferra's character without changing her too much.

Ferra is a newer character in the Mortal Kombat franchise, as she and Torr were introduced in Mortal Kombat X back in 2015.

Ferra Using Other Characters

Mortal Kombat's partial creator, Ed Boon, recently shared some in-game footage and pictures as a fun teaser for what's to come in Mortal Kombat 1. One of these screen captures shows a picture of Ferra on the back of Scorpion, giving an exciting insight into how the character is going to be utilized as a Kameo fighter. Based on this sneak peek, it looks like when Ferra is summoned to assist, she will ride on the back of the player character, just as she did with Torr.

Although it's strange to see her do this without Torr, it's a smart way to feature the character while also honoring the original mechanics that made her so compelling in the first place. Yes, it would be great to see Ferra and Torr together, but perhaps there will be some way to bring them both together again in the future. Mortal Kombat 1 has been bold with its character choices, and making Ferra a stand-alone Kameo fighter is definitely a surprise.

The new timeline that Liu Kang has birthed after the events of Mortal Kombat 11 has brought some fresh takes on the franchise's characters. Some changes have been controversial, while others have been improvements, but it's always intriguing to see how Mortal Kombat 1 chooses to make the game stand out from the previous entries.
