Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat's roster continuously evolves with new fighters and guest characters joining the fray in each release.
  • Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat, has made it clear that he will never be a playable character in the game.
  • While fans speculate on future DLC guest fighters, Ed Boon's appearance in Mortal Kombat remains completely off the table.

The Mortal Kombat franchise has played host to all kinds of characters from various media as guest fighters, but fans shouldn't hold their breath for Ed Boon himself to ever be featured on the roster. Mortal Kombat's roster has evolved dramatically over the years. New fighters are added to the mix in nearly every release, older fighters get significant revamps, and guest fighters join the fray as well.

As far as Mortal Kombat 1 goes, players can already battle it out as Omni-Man from Invincible and Peacemaker from the DCEU, with Homelander from The Boys still in the pipeline. Leaks and rumors have suggested that future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC guest fighters could potentially include Doomslayer and Harley Quinn, but nothing official to that effect has actually been announced just yet. Mortal Kombat fans love to speculate about future guest fighters for the franchise, but it seems one potential option is completely off the table.

Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack Release Schedule (All MK1 DLC Characters)

The Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack grants access to 11 DLC characters, but the release dates for these MK1 kombatants are all a little different.

Responding to a video of a Mortal Kombat 1 mod that adds an Ed Boon skin for Scorpion, Boon said, "Um...yikes." He also revealed that there have been many times when it's been suggested that Ed Boon become a Mortal Kombat fighter, but that it is "not gonna happen." It seems anyone holding out hope for the creator of Mortal Kombat himself to enter the arena is going to be left disappointed.

Ed Boon Will Not Be a Mortal Kombat Fighter

While Ed Boon may never be added to Mortal Kombat 1 as a DLC guest fighter, there are still other DLC characters for fans to look forward to. Omni-Man was released last November, Quan Chi was dropped in December, and Peacemaker joined the roster in February. The next Mortal Kombat 1 DLC fighter is Ermac, who is scheduled to appear on April 16 for those with early access, while everyone else has to wait until April 23. After Ermac makes his debut, there will still be two more Kombat Pack 1 DLC fighters to be added.

Mortal Kombat 1 will add Homelander DLC at some point this spring, which means fans should be able to expect him to join the game by the end of June. Takeda Takahashi is expected to join the Mortal Kombat 1 roster this summer, so all the Kombat Pack 1 DLC fighters should be available by mid-September or thereabouts.

Rumor has it that Mortal Kombat 1 has a Kombat Pack 2 up its sleeve, so it will be interesting to see if even more fighters are added to the popular fighting game. Noob Saibot, Kano, Sareena, Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, and Doomslayer are rumored for Kombat Pack 2, but the official announcement has not been made at the time of this writing.
