Though Mortal Kombat 1 changes a lot about what players know about the Mortal Kombat universe, at its heart, it's the same brutal fighting game it always was – and its most iconic characters haven't gone anywhere, though they might have undergone some alterations with Liu Kang's total reset of the timeline.
Scorpion returns, too, but not exactly the same way that fans know him. This guide serves as an introduction to this new take on the classic Mortal Kombat character, including an overview of the character in MK1, a list of his basic moves, kombos, fatalities, and other tips to play Scorpion.
Scorpion Overview: Kuai Liang Returns With A New Mask
In previous timelines, Scorpion was the name given to Hanzo Hasashi, a member of the Shirai Ryu clan quite literally hellbent on avenging the deaths of his family and clan. In Mortal Kombat 1, though, Kuai Liang – who was Sub Zero in previous timelines – has taken the mantle of Scorpion. Better yet, Scorpion, Smoke, and Sub Zero are brothers, and all members of the Lin Kuei.
Aside from the name change and the lack of the Shirai Ryu, little has changed about Scorpion. His temper is somewhat, well, tempered, and he won't rip off his face to reveal a fire-breathing skeleton. But Scorpion's moves and core gameplay are the same as they ever were: play fast, stay in their face, and Scorpion is a force to be reckoned with against any opponent.
Scorpion Special Moves & Core Basic Attacks
This guide uses a standard universal input translation for moves. Players won't find familiar console buttons listed below – instead, a system created by the fighting game community over time converts each console's controls to a simple formula. This allows all players to understand the inputs necessary for these moves and combos.
For more information on how this system works, refer to this guide on how to understand the Mortal Kombat 1 universal input code.
