Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat 1 is open to adding a character from the DCEU as a DLC guest fighter, which enhances the game's already strong roster.
  • The first set of DLC characters in Mortal Kombat 1 suggests a theme of guest characters from recent adult-themed superhero shows, adding more depth to the game.
  • Aquaman could be a potential DLC fighter in Mortal Kombat 1, as his abilities and association with the grittier side of DC make him a viable candidate.

Mortal Kombat 1 could have a prime opportunity to pull in a character from the DCEU as another DLC guest fighter. Considering that Mortal Kombat 1 is already featuring crossovers with several major superhero properties, it wouldn't be much of a shock to add one more to the list. If anything, it would only bolster the game's already strong roster. There may not be a better time to bring in an extra DC character, and Mortal Kombat may not have another such chance for some time. It may be a risky idea, but it's one well worth thinking about.

Ever since the revelation of Mortal Kombat 1's first DLC characters, there seemed to be something of a theme. The set includes a couple of characters important to the game's lore in Quan Chi and Ermac, but the guest characters may tell a more interesting story. Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker are all major characters from recent adult-themed superhero shows, all of whom should feel perfectly at home in the violent world of Mortal Kombat. It seems like this may be Mortal Kombat 1's guest theme, similar to how Mortal Kombat 11 had several classic action movie characters. If nothing else, it's a strong start to the DLC.

Peacemaker Could be Aquaman's Ticket Into Mortal Kombat 1

Aquaman Jason Momoa

Fans of Peacemaker won't be surprised to see Peacemaker performing fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1. Scene-stealing appearances in The Suicide Squad and his own show have shown him to be one of the more brutal characters in the DCEU who isn't a full-blown villain. While his specialty is gunplay—meaning that Mortal Kombat 1 players should expect some zoning in his moveset—he can also brawl with the best of them. He isn't the only character impacted by his series, though. One scene in the season finale gave fans a short but memorable glimpse at another part of DC's vast universe.

Aquaman's role in Peacemaker's finale features him dealing with some Grand Theft Auto-styled humor at his expense, as Peacemaker and the Flash crack some rather crude jokes in his direction. Aquaman responds by swearing at Flash, which would have been a surprise anywhere else in the DC universe. With Snyder's DC canon likely to become void following Aquaman 2, there may be an opportunity to seize the moment and bring Aquaman into Mortal Kombat 1 as a DLC fighter. With Peacemaker expanding on the grittier side of DC, as well as Peacemaker himself already joining the game, the idea is more valid than it would have been previously.

It helps that Aquaman has the tools to succeed as a future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC fighter. Of course, he has his signature trident, which could see some gruesome utility in a Mortal Kombat game. In addition, while his ability to communicate with sea life is rather niche, the over-the-top nature of the game could allow him to summon sharks, marlins, and other forms of sea life at will to weaponize against his foes. Not to mention, his skillset could result in some rather interesting aquatic-themes fatalities. For a member of the Justice League, Aquaman has surprising potential as a Mortal Kombat competitor, especially since NetherRealm already has great experience with the character's gameplay thanks to the Injustice franchise.

Peacemaker's take on Aquaman could be what could bring him into Mortal Kombat. An iconic DC hero winning the Mortal Kombat tournament is an idea that seemed absurd outside of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. However, with The Joker and now Peacemaker making appearances as DLC fighters in Mortal Kombat games, the barrier between the two universes is looking increasingly thin. That could be enough to justify another DC character coming into the game. As a result, Aquaman could be a potential dark horse to make it into Mortal Kombat 1 via DLC.
