2023 has been one hell of a year for the video game industry, both in the best and worst ways. With huge franchises like Zelda, Star Wars, Diablo, Final Fantasy, and Spider-Man all releasing this year, competition has been at an all-time high. While fighting games tend to keep out of each other's way, that hasn't been the case in 2023, as both Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 released this year. Thankfully, both have managed to remain popular in their own right.

Mortal Kombat 1 has had a great few months. Releasing in September, Mortal Kombat 1 really hit the ground running, delivering a good roster of fighters, a great story mode, and a decent number of additional modes to keep fans invested for the long haul. And with the introduction of Mortal Kombat 1's first DLC Kombat Pack, it seems as though fans are going to be sticking around for a while longer, especially if Mortal Kombat 1's current 2024 plans come to fruition.

Mortal Kombat 1 has just received its third Season, the Season of the Cryomancer, which is set to last up until February 13 2024. After that, it's presumed that Mortal Kombat 1 will continue to receive regular seasonal updates for its Invasions mode, just like it has since October.

Mortal Kombat 1 Could Announce More DLC in 2024

Mortal Kombat 1 Could Announce Its Story Expansion in 2024

Back at the start of December, Ed Boon let slip during an interview that Mortal Kombat 1 will be receiving some kind of story DLC in the future, just like Mortal Kombat 11 before it. According to Boon, this story DLC will act as a "second part" of Mortal Kombat 1's narrative, and with how that game ends, there are a ton of different directions that story could go in, though the most likely storyline will probably center around Havik and his band of Khaos Titans.

When it comes to a release date for Mortal Kombat 1's story DLC, nothing has been officially announced just yet, though looking back at Mortal Kombat 11's release schedule does suggest a general launch window for the DLC. Mortal Kombat 11 released back in April 2019, and its Aftermath story DLC released in May 2020, just a year after the game's original launch. If Mortal Kombat 1 follows a similar release pattern then fans could expect to see it by September or October 2024, though again, this is pure speculation at this point.

Mortal Kombat 1 Could Announce its Second Kombat Pack in 2024

Something else that's pure speculation is Mortal Kombat 1's second Kombat Pack DLC. Not announced in any official capacity at all, some dataminers did discover some hidden files within Mortal Kombat 1 that seemingly suggest that a second Kombat Pack is on the way. Though it's all a little unclear, and again, not officially confirmed by any means, this datamine did suggest that a Kombat Pack 2 could include Scream's Ghostface, along with Conan the Barbarian and a handful of franchise staples like Cyrax and Noob Saibot. If this second Kombat Pack is real, then fans might hear more about it next year.
