Mordhau is one of the bloodiest games on the market, letting players fight it out in brutal medieval fashion, armed to the teeth with swords, axes, and even frying pans. There are multiple game modes that players can try out including massive pitched battles, smaller skirmishes or duels, and even Horde mode which sees players work together to try and fend off waves of enemies.

All of these game modes can be enjoyed on a variety of maps in Mordhau with some being solely optimized for smaller skirmishes and others that play host to multiple different modes. Before each game, players have the opportunity to vote for the map they wish to play on.

7 Arena

Mordhau Arena Map

For players who simply want to engage in an honorable duel with no distractions or buildings that can get in the way of long Zweihander swings, the Arena map is by far the best option. This simple map is the smallest in the game and sees players square off in a circular arena surrounded by cheering crowds eager to see bloodshed.

Ranked 3 vs 3 Teamfights can also be played out on this map as well as the free-for-all mode known as Deathmatch. In many ways, Arena is similar to the Colosseums found in Elden Ring where players similarly engage in intense duels.

6 Feitoria

As Feitoria features a small fortified town in the center with plenty of buildings close together, this map offers players a unique experience in Mordhau. Inside the town, weapons that usually excel due to their long reach can struggle as they might come into contact with walls before they can crush heads.

Nevertheless, on either side of the town, players will find more open regions and on certain game modes players can even mount up on trusty steeds and charge at enemies with a lance or their weapon of choice. Feitoria is also great for Horde mode, which is a bit similar to the Zombie mode from the Call of Duty franchise.

5 The Pit

Mordhau The Pit Map

Although The Pit is classed as a small map and plays host to the Brawl game modes, it actually isn't that small, meaning that isolated fights away from other combatants will often break out. It is for this reason that it often receives plenty of votes.

As its name implies the map features a pit, subsequently creating two levels that players can fight on, with small wooden bridges connecting the higher ground. In some ways, seeing as it is a small map in an arid desert, The Pit is similar to one of the best Call of Duty maps of all time, Rust.

4 Mountain Peak

Mountain Peak is by far the most distinct map in Mordhau due to all the snow and ice, and despite the brutal nature of the game it nearly succeeds in making players think they are playing a cozy winter game.

Despite the frozen setting, epic battles are still fought on this large map, with the central bridge forming a key center of focus for both sides. In Invasion and Horde mode there is also a fortress at one end which naturally acts as a great defensive location to fall back to.

3 Contraband

When it comes to the smaller maps in Mordhau where game modes supporting fewer players are played out, there is one map that is constantly voted for, that being Contraband.

Amid crumbling ruins, players have a few ledges they have to watch out for, as well as a pit. There is also a vantage point that players need to learn how to climb up. Other than that, the map is fairly simple and open which allows players to duel it out with the best weapons in Mordhau.

2 Grad

Grad is a large map in Mordhau and easily one of the best all-around options which players have enjoyed since the game's release. The main focal point of Grad is the small castle that players will defend or attack in certain modes.

As the map's name is Grad, the Old Slavic word for city or town, it is likely inspired by rural medieval Eastern Europe. Other than the castle, players will find the remains of a village and farm, both of which might get players in the mood to play one of the best farming games of all time.

1 Camp

Mordhau Camp Map

When players first load up Mordhau and enter its fantastic tutorial, they will find themselves in the middle of a war camp. This is actually one section of the map called Camp, which features another camp at the other end with a barren wasteland in between. Naturally, this makes for the perfect battlefield.

Whether because the map has the perfect setting or because it is well-balanced, Camp is consistently one of the community's favorites. The size of the map means it can accommodate most game modes including 64-player skirmishes and Horde mode where players will defend a nobleman inside of one of the camps.

Mordhau is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
