Highlights

  • Moon Knight's next appearance will be in the upcoming MCU project Marvel Zombies, a spin-off of the What If...? series on Disney+.
  • The character in Marvel Zombies will not be the Marc Spector version portrayed by Oscar Isaac, but a new version of Moon Knight.
  • Moon Knight's inclusion in Marvel Zombies allows for a more violent and macabre portrayal of the character, as the series has a TV-MA rating.

Moon Knight fans have been clamoring for more since the character made his live-action debut in his own Disney Plus series, and now a new report suggests that the character will return soon, but not in the way fans of the series might have expected.

Moon Knight would be a massive critical success and prove itself commercially by tying for the MCU's second-biggest Disney Plus debut, joining Falcon and the Winter Soldier in falling short of Loki's premiere numbers. Since the series ended, fans have been invested in seeing more of the dark, gritty hero, even more so when leading man Oscar Isaac confirmed Moon Knight would return in another project within the MCU.

Supermassive Would Be a Great Fit for a Marvel Zombies Game

With Supermassive Games continuing to deliver unique horror titles, it would be an excellent choice for a video game based on Marvel Zombies.

Now, a recent report from CanWeGetSomeToast via Instagram aims to settle the details of that claim. According to the rumor, Moon Knight will make his next appearance in the upcoming MCU project Marvel Zombies, a spin-off of the popular What If…? series on Disney Plus. Not being a part of the mainline MCU, Marvel Zombies boasts a TV-MA rating and, as such, has the potential to see the often violent and macabre Moon Knight at his best. Additionally, the news alleges that the version of the character in the show will not be the Marc Spector version portrayed by Isaac in his hit mini-series but a new fist of Khonshu that will be introduced in the upcoming series.

With Moon Knight season 2 chances shot down by director Mohamed Diab, the character’s inclusion in Marvel Zombies is a more welcome prospect than the odds of the largely disconnected and complex live-action version making his way into the mainline narrative of the MCU's current Multiverse Saga or even the quaint world of Tom Holland's Spider-Man films, which is rumored to intersect with Daredevil and other related heroes going forward. While the Zombies project has much going on, the addition of Moon Knight stands out prominently. The series has previously been stated to take a different approach to the concept than the What If…? episode "What If…Zombies?" that inspired it, meaning that viewers can only really guess how Moon Knight will feature in the upcoming project.

However, there’s likely some discontent with the news, as the live-action Moon Knight's appeal as one of the MCU's most visually exciting projects is only exceeded by the love for Isaac's stellar performance in the lead role of a largely isolated project. With the character joining an animated project with a large ensemble cast of heavy hitters and a story straight out of What If…? there’s little chance that the same appeal will remain.

Moon Knight is currently available for streaming on Disney Plus.
