It’s been a while since Moon Knight made his Disney Plus debut. Although the character’s MCU future is uncertain, a new in-depth look at Marc Spector's costume featuring former Mythbuster Adam Savage makes it clear why it’d be such a shame if Marvel missed out on its best-looking superhero.

Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac, was released in the spring of 2022 as the first Marvel Studios show whose protagonist wasn’t a character that had already been introduced in the MCU's Infinity Saga. However, the character’s background made him stand out among the rest of his peers. Besides the mental health struggles depicted on the show, Moon Knight featured more brutal and bloodier action that’s rare in Marvel, and his costume has some unique qualities as well.

On Savage's Tested YouTube channel, the special effects veteran went on a trip to FBFX, one of the film industry's leading companies when it comes to special effects costumes. He was quite pleased with the utmost dedication and thought that went into creating Moon Knight's look. As FBFX’s Head of Soft Costume explains, many of the most intricate details in Moon Knight's disguise go unnoticed, especially for a show that focuses so much on night scenes. Yet when looking at it up close, Steven Grant, Jake Lockley, and Spector have a valid claim for possessing the most drip in the entire MCU.

As Elley explains, Moon Knight's costume consists of 1,013 individually cut pieces, put together in separate parts for practicality's sake. These pieces combine with the gold detailing on Konshu's clothes to make for an unassuming yet gorgeous disguise. FBFX's portfolio includes plenty of MCU clients, including Spider-Man: Far From Home, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but the Justice League, Wonder Woman, Game of Thrones, Christopher Nolan’s Batman, and Harry Potter all got their threads from these superpowered tailors.

It certainly takes a lot to impress Savage. However, it’s impossible not to feel marvelled by the moon silhouette emblazoned on Moon Knight's chest. Sadly, the series’ dark scenery may have kept some from fully appreciating the craftsmanship that went into this creation. Ironically, Marvel's CGI in Moon Knight was criticized, partly due to the transitions where Isaac put on his costume. Even if the show likely had a lower budget than usual, the blame can’t be shifted to the costume design team.

Moon Knight's viewership is estimated to be in the upper rankings for all Marvel Studios shows on Disney Plus, meaning there’s plenty of interest in Marc's adventures and how he and his other two personas could cross over with other Marvel heroes in the future if he never makes it into Marvel's Midnight Suns.

Moon Knight is available on Disney Plus.
