Among the many things that were added in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, the Steamworks in Seliana is one that's often overlooked by players. It can provide Hunters with copious amounts of money as well as some very rare and precious crafting materials if used properly.

Monster Hunter World Features That Should Return in MH Wilds

A handful of important features that didn't make the cut between Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise need to return in MH Wilds.

The Steamworks can be a little confusing at first, especially considering the frantic vibe of the activity. However, it's not that hard to use once you know what to do, and you'll want to use it a lot if you plan on doing a lot of crafting and melding in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.

MHW Steamworks, Explained

The Steamworks is a minigame that converts Dragonvein Coal and other forms of fuel into useful items without having to fight any difficult monsters. It can be found near the Seliana Gathering Hub, and it's manned by Wyverian and Palico engineers. The goal here is to send the Steamworks into Overdrive by pressing the buttons that appear on the screen once you decide to help the crew get things going.

Playing the Steamworks minigame is simple: all you need to do is press the buttons in the correct order. However, there's no way to tell what this order is, which means you'll have to guess. You get items like Armor Spheres, Barrel Bombs, Tranq Bombs, and even Max Potions after you guess a sequence, and it doesn't even matter if you do it correctly or not. However, if you guess a sequence correctly, the Steamworks will generate more steam than usual, and you'll have a higher chance of getting an item of better quality. Completing a sequence will consume 10 points of fuel.

Rewards from the Steamworks in Monster Hunter World

Occasionally, you'll notice that the small pressure gauges will turn red once you correctly guess a button. If you press the remaining buttons in the right order for this round, you're guaranteed to get a significantly better item such as Hard Armor Spheres, Gourmet Vouchers, and Golden Melding Tickets, making this one of the best ways to farm armor decorations.

There are two other bonus modes in this minigame, and they're mainly there to help you fill-up the main steam gauge more quickly. One will have three Palicoes tell you what the correct sequence of buttons is, while the other simply gives you more steam per correct button press.

The Steamworks is mainly used as a source of extra materials that you'd otherwise find tedious to gather in quests. Celestial Wyvern Prints are arguably the most valuable out of all the rewards here, since you can use them to craft very rare monster drops at the Elder Melder.
