Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a huge expansion for what was already a huge game. It’s offered plenty for players to dive into since its launch last month, and it certainly helps that people have been enjoying it a lot, as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s reviews can attest. But the slew of content that’s available right now is not all Capcom has in store. Next week, the first major update for Iceborne will be released, and, best of all, it’s free.
According to a PlayStation 4 system event listing, the so-called “Free Title Update #1” will introduce a new monster, a new location, and a few other new features. This is the update that Capcom teased in the lead-up to Iceborne’s launch, the one that will bring classic Monster Hunter beast Rajang to Iceborne.
While the listing doesn’t go into much detail about everything the update will bring, it does tease the major points. Hunting Rajang is the update’s main event, of course, and the quest to take down the ape-like beast down will prove to be a challenge, as Capcom has warned that Rajang is “the pinnacle of physical strength and unforgiving aggression.” Should they succeed in defeating it, players will receive a special Rajang Claws pendant as a reward.
But the biggest addition coming with the update, in a literal sense, is that of a new area to explore. The listing teases a “Volcanic region” that will be added to the Guiding Lands, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s post-game area. Another location getting new features is the room belonging to the player’s hunter. The update will let them invite other hunters into the room, change the music that plays there, and even showcase their favorite pieces of equipment on a display.
The Free Title Update #1 will be added to Iceborne next Thursday, October 10. As the “#1” suggests, this will only be the first stop on Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s DLC roadmap. Capcom has plans for more content extending well into the near future. This includes a Horizon Zero Dawn tie-in quest coming in November and a new monster (plus two more Horizon quests) in December. There will be more to come in the coming year as well, as Monster Hunter World celebrates its second anniversary.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is available now for PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC version coming in 2020.
