Capcom has shared additional information about Alma, one of the main characters in Monster Hunter Wilds. Although it'll still be a while until fans can get their hands on this upcoming title, the fact that Capcom is already providing so many details about Monster Hunter Wilds is encouraging, as it could indicate that the game may be closer to release than it seems.

Even though the last major entry in the Monster Hunter franchise was released only 3 years ago with Monster Hunter Rise, fans have been patiently waiting for the next mainline installment in Capcom's ARPG series. Even though Rise was well-received, due to it initially being a Nintendo Switch exclusive, some gamers thought that its potential was somewhat limited by the hardware of the aging console. As such, many were hoping that Capcom would make a direct successor to 2018's Monster Hunter: World on current-gen consoles instead. Fortunately, those fans finally had their wish come true when Monster Hunter Wilds was revealed at The Game Awards 2023. Following the announcement of the game and a trailer at a recent State of Play, Capcom has provided more details about a character from the upcoming title.

Monster Hunter Wilds Breaks a Major Franchise Tradition

According to Monster Hunter Wilds' first trailer, it will be breaking one of the franchise's longest-standing traditions concerning its protagonist.

The official Monster Hunter social media account took to Twitter to share some extra information about Alma, one of the characters featured in the latest gameplay trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds. According to the tweet, Alma is a "guide-appointed handler" whose primary task is to "relay monster hunt requests" to players and "manage [their] quests." In addition, Alma will actively support gamers by taking her prowess to the field "throughout [their] adventure." She may not fight alongside players, but she will aid them "with information, supply items, and more."

Alma's role in this game is somewhat reminiscent of that of the Handler from Monster Hunter: World, in addition to the Wyverian maidens Hinoa and Minoto from Monster Hunter Rise. After all, these characters fall under the same category of major quest-giving NPCs. Where Alma is a bit more distinct, however, is that she's actually going to be more directly involved in helping gamers on their monster-killing missions. The idea of taking quest-givers on hunts with players was already toyed around with in Monster Hunter Rise's Sunbreak expansion, but now it seems that Capcom is implementing this as a major feature in Wilds.

Capcom Seems to Be Shaking Up the Series Formula in Monster Hunter Wilds

Like with World before it, it looks like Monster Hunter Wilds will expand the franchise's gameplay by shaking up the series formula established by its predecessors. The addition of handlers going on missions with players won't be the only major new feature in Wilds, as fans can also look forward to playing as a voiced protagonist for the first time in the franchise. From what it's shared so far, it appears that Capcom isn't resting on its laurels with Monster Hunter Wilds, but sadly, gamers will have to wait until 2025 to play it on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
