Thanks to what has been teased for the game thus far, Monster Hunter Wilds could have a chance to put a twist on the Canteens seen in previous Monster Hunter titles. Since the Canteens have proven to be incredibly useful, it's hard to imagine Monster Hunter Wilds cutting them from the game. With that in mind, while there is a lot that still hasn't been revealed about Monster Hunter Wilds, there are some hints towards a new direction for the series. This approach could lead to a completely new incarnation of the Canteen.

So far, it looks like Monster Hunter Wilds could break some traditions for the series if the trailer is any indication. The wild weather and fierce-looking environments seem like they could provide an even harsher world than most Monster Hunter titles, for one. In addition, the title itself carries its own implications: it could point to a harsher struggle to survive. It could also imply a lack of a structure similar to Monster Hunter World's Astera or Monster Hunter Rise's Kamura. If that is the case, then Monster Hunter Wilds will probably have a dramatically different story compared to its recent predecessors.

Monster Hunter Wilds Could Work Wonders With a Stardew Valley Feature

If Monster Hunter Wilds is as reliant upon its dynamic weather system as its trailer implies, it could benefit from a useful Stardew Valley feature.

Monster Hunter Wilds Could Include a Traveling Canteen

The Canteen Is a Useful Monster Hunter Staple

The Canteen is one of the clearest examples of a Monster Hunter feature that should return in Wilds. For a fee, players can order a meal at the Canteen that will not only increase their health and stamina for the next hunt. They can also provide additional effects that provide extra utility, such as faster weapon sharpening or increasing rewards upon a successful hunt. While not required for success, the Canteen is one of the most useful tools at a Monster Hunter player's disposal.

Removing it from Monster Hunter Wilds would accomplish little but cutting out a valuable part of pre-hunt preparations.

Monster Hunter Wilds Might Not Have a Hub For its Canteen

The setting of Monster Hunter Wilds may not allow for a traditional Canteen. There is a chance that Monster Hunter Wilds' camps will not be as large or permanent as the hubs of past games. If the player is constantly on the move in Monster Hunter Wilds, then any sort of Canteen will likewise need to travel. The most likely way that this could work would be for the chef to set up their Canteen wherever the player makes their camp between hunts. This would keep with the traveling theme while also ensuring that the player will have access to the Canteen's useful buffs.

Monster Hunter Wilds' Canteen Could Experiment With Its Effects

There could also be opportunities to introduce more potential Canteen effects in Monster Hunter Wilds. Taking inspiration from the new gimmicks in Monster Hunter Wilds could lead to some effective new recipes. For example, much like how some Canteen effects affected the player's Palicoes or Palamutes, Monster Hunter Wilds could have some that augment the game's new mount.

Likewise, some Canteen effects could reduce the effects of the game's intense weather, or perhaps make extreme weather events less likely. Mixing these alongside the more traditional effects of Monster Hunter's meals could create an ideal Canteen for what Monster Hunter Wilds requires.

There are a lot of questions still swirling around Monster Hunter Wilds for several reasons, and hopefully the Canteen's status will be resolved soon. The chaotic world of Monster Hunter Wilds will surely have players on their toes as they battle the elements as well as the wild monsters within. The Canteen not only provides a familiar comfort, but its buffs are also a vital boost for hunters. If Monster Hunter Wilds doesn't have a central location, that shouldn't keep it from having a traveling Canteen to aid hunters in need.
