Capcom has permanently reduced the price of one of its more recent game releases on Steam. Players who hadn't quite gotten around to purchasing the Capcom title have good incentive to rectify the situation now and might easily apply the money they save to available DLC or to some other game entirely.

Capcom has a long history of releasing exciting content that falls within a variety of popular genres, dating back to the early days of arcades and the NES. The company is on a major Resident Evil kick in recent years, including an upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake that almost didn't happen, but it also enjoys continued success with franchises such as Mega Man, Phoenix Wright, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter. It also has appealed to nostalgic fans with various retro compilations for modern platforms.

On Twitter, Capcom revealed it has permanently discounted the price for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin to $39.99. The discount affects both Switch and PC editions. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is the follow-up to an original game that was exclusive to 3DS and mobile devices. The sequel came to Switch and Steam in late 2021, where its turn-based combat and classic RPG elements prompted some critics to hail it as one of the best RPGs of 2021.

Much like Resident Evil, the mainline Monster Hunter series has been keeping Capcom busy in recent years. Thanks to strong sales of games in those franchises and others, as well as the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake ahead of the end of its fiscal year, Capcom expects to break its sales records this year. If enough gamers respond to the new discount on Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, the number could wind up north of the 40 million mark by an even greater amount. Most of those sales are expected to come from digital releases, as the industry continues moving away from physical releases.

Significant discounts on big games are always good news, and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin earned solid reviews that make the news better still. The new price should allow fans of Monster Hunter and its worlds to try something a little different, especially now that the investment is $20 less risky. 2023 is already off to a solid start with a number of recent and upcoming releases to appeal to RPG fans, so it is good to see Capcom recognize the increased competition in the space and adjust its prices accordingly. And if that adjustment allows budget-conscious RPG fans to finally see what they've been missing out on, that's all for the better.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is now available for the Nintendo Switch and PC.
