Originally appearing in Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite, then later appearing in Monster Hunter: World, it was all but inevitable that Nargacuga would skulk in the shadows of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Bringing a large array of swift attacks and a tail covered in spikes, it's only natural that players would want to make use of the awesome-looking creature to improve their weapons and armor.

One of the many materials that competent hunters can seek to harvest from Nargacuga is its Nargacuga Mantle. This crafting material is used to upgrade several weapons. Despite a fairly low chance of the mantle appearing over the course of a regular fight, this guide seeks to help players maximize their chances of getting one.

Fighting a Nargacuga

monster hunter world iceborne monsters nargacuga

Like the many other monster-specific mantles in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the Nargacuga Mantle is found when dealing with a Master-Rank Nargacuga. Fighting this beast won't be too difficult for players, but for those unfamiliar with the fluffy T. Rex, keep these tips in mind:

  • Players who use sharp weapons should prioritize cutting off the tail, to reduce its range.
  • Those who use blunt weapon users should prioritize the head to deal maximum damage and build up stun.
  • Weapons that use Thunder and Fire elements are Nargacuga's weakness.
  • Weapons that use Water, Ice, and/or Dragon elements won't be very effective.
  • Flash bombs and Sonic bombs should be used if players feel overwhelmed or want to stun Nargacuga.

Where to Find Nargacuga Mantle

Killing multiple Nargacuga will eventually yield a mantle, but players can also get one in any of the following ways:

  • After unlocking Anomaly Investigations at Master Rank 10, a Nargacuga Mantle can be bought from Bahari in the Anomaly Research Lab for 150 Investigation Coins.
  • Severing the Nargacuga's tail and carving it up has a 5% chance of yielding a mantle.
  • Capturing a Nargacuga has a 4% chance of yielding a Nargacuga Mantle in the 'quest complete' screen.
  • Breaking the Nargacuga's head during the fight has a 3% chance of it dropping a mantle.
  • Killing a Nargacuga has a 2% chance of yielding a mantle in the 'quest complete' screen.
  • Nargacuga has a 1% chance of dropping a mantle over the course of a regular fight. Pick up anything that flies off it.
