Rathalos has been the poster boy for the Monster Hunter franchise for almost 20 years, and since then, it has received new sub-species and variants, such as the Silver Rathalos. Like its queen, the Gold Rathian, Silver Rathalos was recently brought into Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak in Title Update 1.

However, in the newest update, some players needed clarification about how to fight the new King of the sky. This guide will help Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak players unlock and defeat a Silver Rathalos.

How To Unlock Silver Rathalos

After players complete the main storyline of the Sunbreak DLC, they can finally increase their Master-Rank level beyond the previous cap of 7. Once players reach level 10, they will receive an Urgent quest from Doctor Tadori at the Elgado Outpost to either capture or kill a Seething Bazelgeuse, who was also included in Title Update 1. After defeating the Seething Bazelgeuse, players can speak with Doctor Tadori once more, where they will be given the Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos quests.

The order in which they fight them doesn't matter as long as they eventually complete each quest to unlock future monsters.

Veteran hunters aren't exactly thrilled to see Silver Rathalos return once again in a Title Update, especially since it received virtually no changes from when it was in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Nonetheless, some hunters have never faced a Rathalos sub-species, and thus it's time to discuss how to defeat the Silver King.

How To Defeat Silver Rathalos

Silver Rathalos act more or less the same as standard Rathalos. It's highly aggressive, will stay in the air for as long as possible, and shoot lots of fire at its opponents. That said, there are two key differences to be aware of when fighting it.

For starters, Silver Rathalos are no longer weak to the Dragon element like base Rathalos are. Instead, it now swaps its weakness from Dragon to Water. Like other Rathalos and Rathians, Silver Rathalos is especially weak when players target its legs, wings, and tail. However, unique to the Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos is a new Enraged state, the Incandescent mode.

While in this new mode, Silver Rathalos' head will become super vulnerable, making it the weakest part of the body, and all hunters should begin to target the head to try and knock it out of the Incandescent state. However, players should be warned, as while in the Incandescent mode, all the Silver Rathalos Fire-based attacks now deal twice as much damage, becoming hyper-aggressive against players.

To seal the deal, if players cannot knock it out of Incandescent mode, Silver Rathalos will soar up into the air to use its ultimate move, the Explosive Inferno Combo. It will fly around the area, shooting blue fireballs that can stick to the ground and finish with a giant fireball that explodes a large portion of the room. However, players can prevent that by shooting Silver Rathalos with a Flash Bomb, knocking it out of the sky.

Overall, Silver Rathalos should be treated like a normal Rathalos that hits harder than usual. If players are adept at hunting the base versions, they should be okay with squaring off against the Silver King.
