The Flagship monster for Monster Hunter 4, Gore Magala, has returned once more in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. This vicious beast terrorized the 4th generation of Monster Hunter games with its Frenzy Virus and is looking to do so again in the Sunbreak DLC of Monster Hunter Rise.
However, unlocking the virus dragon remains unclear for a lot of hunters. This guide will help Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak players unlock and beat Gore Magala.
How To Unlock Gore Magala
Gore Magala is unlocked by completing various quests for the story of the Sunbreak DLC. Its quest, "Dark Wings, Dark Work," can only be unlocked by first completing the Espinas Urgent Quest, "A Slumbering Jungle Espinas." Upon defeating Espinas, players can finally speak to the quest princess at the Elgado Outpost to take on a Gore Magala.
Gore Magala is no walk in the park, unlike some of the other 4 Star Master Rank monsters. It's considered right on the cusp of being an Elder Dragon powerful, alongside other monsters such as Deviljho. Ironically, Gore Magala is one of the only monsters in the franchise to transform into an Elder Dragon, the Shagaru Magala. Players can prevent that nightmarish transformation by understanding how to fight and kill a Gore Magala.
How To Beat Gore Magala
Gore Magala's main gimmick is the presence of the exclusive Frenzy virus. This virus is unique to the "Magala" monsters and will halt a player's natural health regeneration if they are afflicted with it. Players can be afflicted if Gore Magala damages them. A new gauge will appear over the hunter's health bar when the virus sets in. To overcome it, hunters must go on the offensive against Gore Magala, as eventually, dealing enough damage to the beast will remove the virus.
Unlike other monsters, Gore Magala has a unique enraged state called the Frenzied mode. In this mode, Gore Magala's Horns will fully grow out and glow purple while the rest of its body is cloaked with the Frenzy virus. To overcome this dangerous state, players should aim to break the horns, temporarily knocking it out, allowing them to deal massive damage to the beast. For better results, players should use Fire-based weapons on the head, as the Gore Magala's main weakness is the Fire element.
Here are a few final notes to be aware of before heading into the fight. Traps such as a Pitfall or Shock trap will work against Gore Magala, but Flash and Sonic Bombs do not. Also, unlike its Elder Dragon form, Shagaru Magala, Gore Magala can be captured. In case players are struggling to deal damage to Gore Magala while they have the Frenzy virus, they can use a Nullberry to suppress and halt the progress of the gauge temporarily. However, the Nullberry will not remove it, so the players will still have to deal enough damage to the beast to get rid of the virus eventually.
