Quick Links
First appearing in Monster Hunter Rise as one of the game's original monsters, the Goss Harag is a yeti-like beast with powerful claws that hunts in the game's frost islands and citadel. With its ability to spit icy blasts and create awesome-looking ice blades that extend its reach, players looking to add an icy flair to their weapons or just upgrade themselves in general should make use of the fanged creature to improve their weapons and armor.
One of the many materials that hunters can seek to harvest from Goss Harag is the Dense Block of Ice. This crafting material is used to upgrade several weapons, and with its fairly high chance of dropping over the course of a regular fight and quest completion, this guide seeks to help players maximize their chances of getting one as soon as possible.
Fighting a Goss Harag
Like the many other monster-specific crafting materials in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the Dense Block of Ice is found when dealing with a Master-Rank Goss Harag. Fighting this beast shouldn't prove too difficult for players that can deal with its enraged attacks, but for those unfamiliar with the dangerous dual-wielder, keep these tips in mind:
- Expect ice, and wear ice-resistant armor accordingly.
- If afflicted by Iceblight, eat a Nullberry or roll repeatedly to negate it.
- Players who use sharp weapons should prioritize the Goss Harag's legs to immobilize it.
- Those who use blunt weapons should prioritize the Goss Harag's ice weapons to deal more damage.
- Weapons that use Thunder and Fire elements are Goss Harag's weakness.
- Weapons that use any other elements won't be as effective.
- When Goss Harag becomes enraged, hit any parts of it that turn red to deal more damage.

Where to Find Dense Blocks of Ice
Killing multiple Goss Harags will eventually yield a dense block of ice, but players can also get one in any of the following ways:
- Goss Harag has a 33% chance of dropping a Dense Block of Ice over the course of a regular fight. Pick up anything that flies off it.
- Killing a Goss Harag has a 15% chance of yielding a Dense Block of Ice in the 'quest complete' screen.
- Capturing a Goss Harag has a 12% chance of yielding a Dense Block of Ice in the 'quest complete' screen.
- Carving the Goss Harag's body will not yield any dense blocks of ice.
