Monster Hunter Rise has been a major success for Capcom and the Nintendo Switch following its release in late March, selling over six million copies worldwide after just a month. Now, with Monster Hunter Rise's 2.0 update released, players can fight a bunch of new monsters and craft some brand new weapons and armor.

However, players just starting out with Monster Hunter Rise are going to have to work their way up these new monsters coming to the game in 2.0 by fighting lower rank monsters and forging weapons and armor from them. One of these lower rank monsters in Monster Hunter Rise, called the Barroth, can provide some good early game armor and weapons, provided players know where to find the right materials, such as Barroth Scalp.

Gathering Barroth Scalp

Naturally, Barroth Scalps are materials that players are going to be gathering by fighting a Barroth. Barroth is one of the earlier monsters that players will fight in Monster Hunter Rise, meaning players will have plenty of chances to fight it and gather materials from it. However, the Barroth can still be somewhat tricky to fight, thanks to its unique anatomy. The crown on its head is made of hard rock, while the rest of its body is more exposed. This means that players won't have to worry too much about choosing a weapon that deals one type of damage over another.

However, Barroth does have a handful of elemental weaknesses that players should note. It has three-star weaknesses to Poison, Paralysis, and Blast, which will probably be most helpful in gathering Barroth Scalps. Players are going to want to fight Barroth in Low Rank quests, as the potential to earn Barroth Scalp drops are higher than in High Rank. In Low Rank, Barroth Scalps are a 10% target reward, a 13% capture reward, and are an 8% carve reward from the body, but an 80% carve reward from the scalp.

Forging with Barroth Scalp

Now that players have gathered some Barroth Scalps, there are quite a few things players can craft with them. For weapons, while the weapon options that players can craft using Barroth materials are somewhat limited, there is still a decent selection to choose from. Barroth Scalps are required to craft select trees from the Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword and Shield, and the Lance. Arguably, this selection contains some of the most underrated weapons in Monster Hunter, and will surely prove useful in the late Low Rank and early High Rank quests.

Notably, the Castellum Long Sword, the Barroth Club Sword and Shield, and the Barroth Carver Lance all reach rarity 5 and come with blue sharpness. Additionally, though these weapons have -20% affinity they deal 200 raw damage, making them great weapons for early High Rank quests. As for armor, Barroth Scalps are only necessary for the Barroth armor set. While the Barroth armor set is far from the best armor set in Monster Hunter Rise, no armor set is completely useless and can be crafted if so desired. All in all, the Barroth is a great monster for players to farm early on to help them get to High Rank.

Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC port is expected to launch in early 2022.
