What perhaps makes modern Monster Hunter such an appealing part of gaming culture today is its expanded arsenal of weapons - each offering a unique gameplay experience that seems like a game of its own within each entry. Such weapons are Bows, Crossbows, and Lances - each of which serves as the main long-ranged weapons in the fantasy hunting game. When combined with the new features of Monster Hunter Rise, such as mounts and ziplines, these weapons become a delight to wield and use against monsters.

Of course, in the spirit of realism, Monster Hunter does require players to carry enough ammunition to even deal damage to monsters using these weapons. In the context of Monster Hunter Rise, this means choosing from a multitude of Ammo Items that have different effects on certain monsters in specific situations. Just how do these Ammo Items work?

10 Armor Ammo

Armor Ammo

Sometimes, the best kind of ammunition isn’t a damaging bullet but a protective one - and this is precisely what Armor Ammo does. This Ammo fits Heavy Bowguns or Light Bowguns and is said to make its target’s skin as hard as stone. At its core, the Armor Ammo is more of a defensive ammo than an offensive one, as it boosts the defense of allies it hits. This is a great Ammo for support players, as they’re designed to buff them before tough fights.

Players can obtain Armor Ammo from the Market or Guild Store for 150z. They can also craft Armor Ammo by combining Normal Ammo 1 and an Adamant Seed to produce three usable Armor Ammo.

9 Demon Ammo

Demon Ammo

Sometimes, the best bullets come in the form of those that just help allies punch harder - something that the Demon Ammo excels in doing. Instead of dealing damage, this Ammo for Light Bowguns or Heavy Bowguns is capable of boosting the overall combat performance of their allies. At its core, the Demon Ammo gives its targets a +10 Attack boost and a 10% Raw Hitzone Modifier for 180 seconds, vastly improving the attacks of allies for that duration.

Players can obtain the Demon Ammo from the Market or Guild Store for 180z. Likewise, they can also craft Demon Ammo by combining Normal Ammo 1 and Might Seed, which then produces three usable Demon Ammo.

8 Recover Ammo 2

Recover Ammo 2

A living ally that deals little damage is better than a heavy-hitting ally lying knocked down on the ground. Support units who want to improve the odds of their team outlasting enemies could use the Recover Ammo 2, the improved version of the Recover Ammo when wielding their Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun. Thanks to this Ammo, a support Hunter can give a bit of much-needed healing to teammates in dangerous situations.

Players can only obtain Recover Ammo 2 via crafting, for which they can produce two pieces of Recover Ammo 2 from a Recover Ammo 1 and Catalyst. Likewise, they can obtain Recover Ammo 1 from the Market or Guild Store for 8z, or by combining Normal Ammo 1 and Potion.

7 Cluster Bomb 3

Cluster Bomb 3

When an attack just grazes a monster, it seems like there’s nothing that could take them down. But even a ton of grazes can take a monster down when dealt often enough, and that’s what the Cluster Bomb 3 does. An improvement upon the Cluster Bomb 1, the Cluster Bomb 3 is designed to divide into various fragments that explode upon impact, capable of damaging multiple monster parts at once or even other monsters that stay close beside it.

6 Shrapnel Ammo 3

Shrapnel Ammo 3

Hunters who just couldn’t zero in on their target monster don’t need to dive into a killzone just to get a hit. If they’re wielding Light Bowguns and Heavy Bowguns, then the Shrapnel Ammo 3 may just be able to solve their problems. An improvement upon the Shrapnel Ammo 1, the Shrapnel Ammo 3 is designed to split into various explosive fragments and cover a large area, allowing Hunters to hit multiple targets at once over a short distance.

Shrapnel Ammo 3 can be obtained by purchasing it from the Market or Guild Store for 9z. Likewise, they can simply craft this by combining a Shrapnel Ammo 1 with Gunpowder Lv3 to produce four pieces of Shrapnel Ammo 3. They can also create a Shrapnel Ammo 1 by buying it in the Market or Guild Store for 3z, or by crafting it from a Huskberry.

5 Spread Ammo 3

Hunters can get frustrated real quick if they end up getting knocked down just a few more hits before they eliminate their target. Thankfully, Spread Ammo 3 packs just the right punch to transform a single hit into multiple hits at once. Unlike the scattering Ammo described above, the Spread Ammo 3 for the Light Bowgun and the Heavy Bowgun are designed as an improvement of the Spread Ammo 1. When used properly, a player at melee range can hit a monster multiple times without too many worries.

Players can acquire Spread Ammo 3 through the Market or Guild Store for 12z. They can also craft four pieces of Spread Ammo 3 through the combination of Spread Ammo 1 and Gunpowder Lv3. Likewise, players can get Spread Ammo 1 by buying it from the Market or Guild Store for 4z, or by crafting it from a Needleberry.

4 Exhaust Ammo 2

Exhaust Ammo 2

Sometimes, players just need a monster to stop moving in order to deal enough damage to them. Thankfully, players don’t always need to engage monsters in the heat of battle to tire them down. In fact, it may just take a few shots of Exhaust Ammo 2 to take them down. Serving as an improvement to the Exhaust Ammo 1, the Exhaust Ammo 2 is designed not to damage opponents but instead slowly wear their energy in order to completely stun them via the Exhaust condition.

3 Paralysis Ammo 2

Paralysis Ammo 2

Players who want to stun their monsters before finishing them off might be able to do so with ease thanks to Paralysis Ammo 2. Serving as an improvement to the Paralysis Ammo 1, the Paralysis Ammo 2 can deal the Paralysis status to a monster with enough shots, effectively stunning them and readying them for a fierce counterattack from the players.

Players can obtain Paralysis Ammo 2 via crafting, particularly through the combination of Paralysis Ammo 1 and Catalyst. Likewise, players can obtain Paralysis Ammo 1 from the Market or Guild Store for 20z, or via crafting courtesy of Normal Ammo 1 and Parashroom.

2 Pierce Ammo 3

Pierce Ammo 3

Players who want to deal multiple hits to a monster in a single shot might find delight with the Pierce Ammo 3. Designed as an improvement to Pierce Ammo 1, this final entry of the Pierce Ammo series serves as a means for Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun users to hit an opponent hard in multiple succession without wasting a ton of bullets. When used strategically, Pierce Ammo 3 can take down tough threats easily.

Players can obtain Pierce Ammo 3 directly from the Market or Guild Store for 12z. Likewise, they can also craft four pieces of Pierce Ammo 3 by combining Pierce Ammo 1 and Gunpowder Lv3. Meanwhile, players can also get Pierce Ammo 1 through the Market or Guild Store for 4z, or via crafting thanks to the Latchberry.

1 Poison Ammo 2

Paralysis-Ammo-2-1

Sometimes, it only takes the monster’s own movements to eliminate them - something players could do thanks to the Poison status. If players love using the Light Bowgun or the Heavy Bowgun, then Poison Ammo 2 might be worth the addition to their Ammo slots. Serving as an improvement to the Poison Ammo 1, the Poison Ammo 2 can slowly wear down the opponent and inflict the Poison status onto them, making them much weaker over time.

Players can only craft Poison Ammo 2 by combining Poison Ammo 1 and a Catalyst. Likewise, players can obtain Poison Ammo 1 by buying it directly from the Market or Guild Store for 15z, or via crafting two pieces of Poison Ammo 2 by combining Normal Ammo 1 and Toadstool.

Monster Hunter Rise is currently available for the Nintendo Switch and PC.
