The much-awaited Monster Hunter Rise digital online event happened just recently and the developers have unloaded a bevy of new information on the fanbase. One of them is the launch of new Monster Hunter Rise-themed amiibo that, when scanned, will unlock a special layered armor set for their owners.

Layered armor is not a new concept in Monster Hunter series, but the term was first used in Monster Hunter World. This unique game feature allows the hunter to change the outward appearance of their armor, without having to switch the set they currently have equipped. This is especially popular for hunters who prefer a unified aesthetic look of a certain armor set, but need to wear mixed equipment to be effective during hunts. A very popular endeavor across some games, it is exciting for fans that layered armor has made a comeback in Monster Hunter Rise.

During the digital event, the team reiterated that they were launching the MH RiseMagnamalo, Palico, and Palamute amiibo, alongside the game itself. Fans were quick to notice that each amiibo will come with a special layered armor set. To redeem the layered armor, players simply have to scan the amiibo on their Nintendo Switch. If a player purchases the Magnamalo amiibo, scanning the figure will grant them the layered armor for their hunter, if they have the Palico amiibo, they will receive the Palico armor, and so on.

Community influencer Kogath (@MHKogath on Twitter) also shared hi-resolution renders of all three layered armor sets. He also mentioned that the Monster Hunter Rise layered armor sets are named "Sinister Seal", though Capcom as not confirmed any of these in its official sites.

Each of the special layered armor sets seems to take inspiration from the flagship monster Magnamalo's powerful design aesthetic. However, hunters should be reminded that layered armor does not grant gameplay bonuses, and will only tweak their outward appearance.

Monster Hunter Rise will be released on March 26, 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.
