Monster Hunter Now is Niantic's mobile take on Capcom's hardcore action RPG series. At first, players will only have access to one weapon type, the Sword & Shield. However, over time, players will gain access to the other weapon types, such as the Great Sword, Hammer, Long Sword, Light Bowgun, and a couple more. In this guide, we'll show players how to forge new weapons so that they can experiment with them in battles against iconic Monster Hunter creatures like the Great Jagras.

How to Unlock More Weapon Types in Monster Hunter Now

There are five other weapon types that players will be able to forge once they reach a certain milestone in the campaign. The Great Sword is the first weapon that players will unlock once they reach the Chapter 2: Shimmering Swamp questline.

The rest of the weapon types (Long Sword, Hammer, Bow, and Light Bowgun) will be unlocked at the same time once Monster Hunter Now players complete the Great Girros Urgent Quest that wraps up Chapter 2. As players encounter more new monsters and progress through the story quests, more weapons will be available to forge.

The Great Sword and the Hammer are great options for hunters who would like to focus on dealing slow, strong attacks that can easily break monster parts to receive bonus rewards. The Long Sword is a good pick with great reach and can cut a monster's tail off. The Bow and the Bowgun can shoot monsters from far away and are great at inflicting status effects and keeping hinters away from powerful beasts.
