Nintendo Switch owners envious of other platforms enjoying a modern Monster Hunter title can now rest easy. Thursday morning, Capcom announced the upcoming localization Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate for the Switch, a port of Japan's 3DS title Monster Hunter XX. The action-RPG will be available starting August 28. It might not be Monster Hunter World, but for a lot of fans that makes this news even better.

The Nintendo Switch iteration of Monster Hunter Generations will officially be the fourth version of the game, which initially launched in 2015. Monster Hunter Generations, known as Monster Hunter X in Japan, came first on Nintendo 3DS. Monster Hunter XX then followed, which is an expanded version of the original that didn't receive a localization. Japan then saw a Nintendo Switch version of XX released in 2017 featuring an HD upgrade. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate will feature all of the content from previous versions of the game, including the visual upgrade for the Switch.

For Nintendo 3DS players of Monster Hunter Generations, here's what content Capcom's confirmed will be new on Nintendo Switch: A new level of challenge is perhaps the most exciting addition, with the all-new G-Rank quests. Two new stiles, Alchemy and Valor, will offer exciting opportunities for gameplay diversity. And, of course, new monsters will be available too, with new deviant variants of the "Fated Four" and more, Elder Dragon Valstrax, and endgame boss Ahtal-ka becoming available to hunt.

3DS players of Monster Hunter Generations will also be pleased to hear that they will be able to transfer their save files to the Nintendo Switch and pick up where they left off. There's no word on just how that will work, or if the upcoming premium Nintendo Switch online service will be required, but it's better than nothing.

Since Capcom has said that bringing Monster Hunter World to the Nintendo Switch would be "difficult" as a port,  Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is certainly the next best thing. And it may imply even better news, in that Capcom continues to consider the Nintendo Switch a platform for Monster Hunter titles.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate releases on August 28 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. Monster Hunter Generations is currently available on the Nintendo 3DS.
