Monolith Productions’ popular Nemesis System could possibly make its way into future Mortal Kombat and Harry Potter titles. This comes via a job listing on the Warner Bros. Discovery website looking for a Director of Engineering at WB Games who will help the company implement its various systems from its wide roster of games to its upcoming titles in the Mortal Kombat, LEGO, and Harry Potter series.

The Nemesis System was introduced with Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor in 2014, and was one of the biggest reasons behind the game’s success. It also made its way into the 2017 sequel, Middle Earth: Shadow of War, which was another smash hit for Monolith. The Nemesis System basically provided players with a unique gameplay experience based on their actions and interactions with NPCs in the game. Thanks to this system, players got a unique set of dialogues and a reminder of their choices made earlier, which was revolutionary in the industry. Now, with this job posting, Warner Bros. Discovery might be finally looking to implement it in its upcoming games.

The job listing mentions how WB Games studios, mainly Rocksteady, Avalanche, and Monolith have “unique technical advantages” thanks to the different systems they have built. “We are looking for someone to take these strategic systems and join them together with Unreal Engine 5 to build a framework for the next generation of DC universe games, for Harry Potter universe games, for LEGO and Mortal Kombat games” the listing reads. This means that Warner Bros is possibly ready to implement the Nemesis System in other titles after patenting it back in 2021.

Warner. Bros Discovery Nemesis System Mortal Kombat and Harry Potter

The original patent for the Nemesis System was filed back in 2015, but it was only approved in 2021 after multiple rejections. Considering Warner Bros. Discovery pays the necessary fees, it can hold the patent till 2035; however, the Nemesis System hasn’t been utilized in any game after Shadow of War. With this job listing, it looks like Warner Bros. Discovery was looking for the right games to implement it, and could possibly end up using it in one of its upcoming Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, or LEGO titles.

One title that has been confirmed to use the Nemesis System is Monolith’s upcoming Wonder Woman game, which was announced at The Game Awards in 2021. Not a lot of information is available about the game, but it is confirmed to be a single-player open-world title where the Amazonian will protect Themyscira from threats unknown. The possibilities are endless for the implementation of the Nemesis System in this game considering it could lead to unique interactions with other Justice League members or some of Wonder Woman’s staple enemies like Cheetah and Ares.

Mortal Kombat 12 is currently in development.
