Recreating Joel and Ellie in The Sims 4 can certainly be done with just in-game CAS assets, but it’s fun to have something as close to the original characters as possible. Creator Cantransimmer has created a few CAS items to bring the small found family of Joel and Ellie to their alternate universe in The Sims 4.

From their Tumblr page, Joel and Ellie’s outfits can be downloaded, as well as cosmetics, hair, and objects. Cantransimmer has released an entire collection of downloadables that are perfect for a The Last of Us recreation.

5 Apocalyptic Cas Backgrounds

Before a Sim can be thrust into the harsh and unforgiving world of the zombie apocalypse, they must be melded into being by the player of The Sims 4. Sims can get a preview of their new life through CAS backgrounds that reflect the end of days. Annett’s Sims 4 World has created many apocalyptic CAS backgrounds that are available to download.

The download comes with 14 different CAS backgrounds to choose from. Each background features a run-down, dirty, abandoned area with broken objects and nature that’s taken over in the absence of maintenance. Players can only choose one CAS background file, but the stunning apocalyptic view enhances the beginning of a The Last of Us inspired save.

4 Apocalyptic City Skyline

The skylines in all the worlds in The Sims 4 are just too idyllic for an apocalyptic game. The buildings are pristine and untouched and the world of SimNation hasn’t ended… yet. Found through Mod The Sims, creator Bakie has created a skyline default replacement that turns the idyllic backgrounds in The Sims 4 to an apocalyptic scene.

Worlds that use the same backdrop as Willow Creek or Newcrest will be affected by the skyline replacement. The intact buildings are replaced with buildings that have been damaged and on fire, and greenery that has completely taken over. The background also features a smoke cloud as a final touch, just to let Sims know that their world is definitely on fire.

3 Post-Apocalyptic CC

When Sims during the apocalypse are hiding away in their bunkers and plotting their next move, they need apocalypse-appropriate furniture. Severinka’s bunker furniture set provides survivors with: a desk, dining table, 2 types of chairs, beds, mattresses, cupboards, lockers, an air duct, and a pipeline. The textures and coloring of the objects have been masterfully done to show off that lived-in, grungy, and grotty feeling of the apocalypse.

Severinka also has an equipment set for Sims’ survival bunkers. The bunker equipment set includes items like a communication apparatus that includes a: radio, microphone, avometer, and more. There are also two electrical panels, and an air conditioning unit. The two combined CC sets should outfit surviving Sims with everything they would need in their bunkers while they hunker down.

2 Reshade Presets

The Silent Hill reshade preset in The Sims 4

The Sims 4’s graphics and lighting are too bright and colorful for a humanity that's on the brink of collapse. If the zombie apocalypse is happening, things would look and feel dark, grungy, and gritty. Reshade presets can bring in that aesthetic and tone down the bright colors, and if some depth and MXAO is added it can really make the entire game look and feel much more realistic.

The Silent Hill reshade preset by Simsbiosis adds a foggy and de-saturated look to the game. Bright colors are toned down with a more blurry look and low view distance. This preset makes the game feel creepy and haunting, just like the Silent Hill games and movies. Pastoral Haunting by Fuchsia Tea Sims also de-saturates the colors in the game, but still keeps colors like red, brown, orange, and white possibly even richer than they were before.

1 Zombie Apocalypse Mod

A zombie walking past Joel in The Sims 4

This mod by Sacrificial Mods is the ultimate zombie apocalypse experience in The Sims 4. It’s an awesome feat for a mod this detailed to only require the base game. The apocalypse can be started in 3 different ways: a social event with goals that is available after using a purchased radio to listen to the emergency broadcast, selecting the ‘Infect All Sims In District’ option on the purchased radio, and using a purchased Zombification virus. If players also enjoy the Resident Evil franchise, and other zombie games, Jill Valentine and Nemesis are also included in this mod.

The player’s Sim can be infected by the zombie virus, but it can be cured. If players decide to not cure the virus, once the Sim gets bitten again they will become a zombie. Zombies can be killed if a Sim is quick enough before they attack, or Sims can use a zombie cure on the attacking zombie. Partners can also be assigned to tackle the zombie apocalypse together, so Joel and Ellie can work together even in The Sims 4.
