Activision has announced a new pre-order bonus for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, granting players early access to the campaign well ahead of launch. Starting on October 20, any fan who pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2 will have complete access to the campaign before the game’s full launch on October 28.

Activision is no stranger to offering a treasure trove of pre-order bonuses for its long-standing Call of Duty franchise. Before today’s announcement, players who pre-ordered any version of Modern Warfare 2 could look forward to early access to the Open Beta and immediate access to the Legendary “Deathknell” Operator Skin and Legendary “Bloodthirsty” Weapon Blueprint for Vanguard and Warzone. Additionally, players who have some more cash to spare can pre-order the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare 2, which includes four Red Team 141 operators, the Season One Battle Pass, the Ghost Legacy Pack, and the mysterious FJX Cinder Weapon Vault.

In a first for the series, Activision has announced that fans who pre-order the digital version of Modern Warfare 2 can access the campaign a whole week early, confirming multiple rumors that have trended in recent days. Modern Warfare 2’s campaign will follow the story of Task Force 141 in a globetrotting adventure featuring missions in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. A brief new trailer accompanies today’s announcement and shows the team in action across dusty vistas and city skylines. Campaign early access starts on October 20 and is exclusive to the digital version of Modern Warfare 2.

Never in the history of Call of Duty has Activision allowed fans to play the campaign early, much less a week in advance. However, it certainly solves a long-standing launch day conundrum that has long followed the fan base. Thanks to campaign early access, those who pre-order Modern Warfare 2 might not have to choose between playing the single-player campaign on launch day or jumping straight into multiplayer because they now have a whole week to finish the story.

Fans will have multiple opportunities to get their hands on the multiplayer before its release, however. On September 16, PlayStation fans can look forward to the first round of Beta testing for Modern Warfare 2 if they pre-ordered any version of the game. The second round of beta testing will begin on September 22 for PC and Xbox pre-orders, with a full Open Beta for all players that weekend. Modern Warfare 2 is set to continue the gritty and grounded storytelling of the first game, and it might just be a campaign that fans won’t want to miss.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 releases on October 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
