Every season, gamers get about two or three opportunities to steal a home run back in MLB The Show 23. This is highly subject to luck as it requires several factors. There needs to be an outfielder that can make the play, the right ballpark, and a gamer that knows the timing.

However, luck might dictate that this event happens only once or twice in an outfielder's entire career. Gamers should prepare now so that when the moment comes in MLB The Show 23, they're prepared to commit the infamous "highway robbery," taking a run off the board and turning it into an out.

Setting The Stage

MLB The Show 23 Where To Rob Home Runs

There are some fields where players simply can't steal home runs. Even the best right fielders in baseball can't take a home run away at Coors Field. The wall is massive. Or think about the "Green Monster" in left field at Fenway.

Players who want to maximize the odds should try to play in ballparks with fences that are lower, giving them the best shot at leaping above the wall and making a catch.

Important Attributes

  • Speed
  • Fielding

Power and contact are fantastic attributes for players trying to hit home runs but they do nothing for players in the field. The maneuver is already difficult to pull off, if players aren't gifted at fielding, they'll often drop the ball even if their timing is perfect.

For that reason, it's important to get speed and fielding high. Speed will help players get to the wall and time it out; trying to take away a home run while catching up is possible but not likely. Fielding will increase the odds of catching the ball if it hits the glove. There is little more frustrating than getting everything else right only to drop the ball as it lands.

The Timing

  • 1, 2, 3, then press the jump button (R1).

Players will notice three yellow arrows against the outfield wall, indicating there is an opportunity to rob a home run. They will slowly and rhythmically light up green. Gamers should count aloud "1, 2, 3, jump" to get the timing right.

There are two common mistakes. The first is that the player will jump on the third count, in which case they will be way too early. The next mistake is to jump into the air as though the ball will land on the fourth beat. But neither of these is correct.

The arrows are indicators for the player input. Do not press the jump button (R1, the right bumper on all console controllers) until the fourth beat. If timed correctly, the player will catch the ball for the out.

MLB The Show 23 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
