Players who are having a tough time trying to equip items in MLB The Show 23 are not alone. For years, the user interface has been unintuitive. Sometimes players will think they're equipping items only to find they're changing cosmetics and not actually putting anything on at all.
Other times, it will appear that equipment resets, especially between characters in MLB The Show 23. After some tinkering, players should take just a few seconds to follow a few quick steps. After that, removing, adding, and changing out equipment should be a snap.
Equipping Gear To A Character
- Open the player profile screen.
- Select the ballplayer.
- Scroll down until getting to Playstyle > Equipment.
- Choose the desired equipment piece.
The game treats every character the player makes as an individual and does not import any gear equipped from one character to the other. This means that players will need to re-equip their favorite pieces of equipment when making a new character.
After loading the correct ballplayer under the 'My Ballplayer' tab, gamers will also have to give the new player an ideal customized batting stance and then go down to the 'Playstyle' tab until they find the 'Equipment' section.
Choose any slot that needs a new piece of gear and then scroll left or right until finding the desired piece. It's good that the game breaks it down between players so that hitters, pitchers, fielders, and baserunners can all use equipment that makes the most sense for them and their needs.
Players who want to hit tons of home runs will find that they're just a few pieces of equipment away.
Be advised that the appearance section will allow players to change their uniforms cosmetically but the stats on the equipment as listed here will count, even if players choose to "unequip" the piece visually.
There has been a glitch going on for four years now that visual customizations reset after every few games or series. This glitch does not actually change the player's equipped items, just their looks.
MLB The Show 23 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
