Some of the greatest power hitters in baseball history have played in right field. Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth both played in this spot. The tradition continues as Aaron Judge plays the same spot today. It's indeed the place to be for power hitters in MLB The Show 23.
But it is incredibly misleading to say that power is all that matters for right fielders. Players like Pete Rose and Tony Gwynn also played in this spot. Five-tool players are often here to hit home runs and gun down runners at the plate. The right team can unleash the most talented players in MLB The Show 23 if they are on a team that fits their skills.
Tampa Bay Rays
Position | Rating Of Best Player |
Starting Pitcher 1 | 93 |
Starting Pitcher 2 | 84 |
Starting Pitcher 3 | 84 |
Starting Pitcher 4 | 80 |
Starting Pitcher 5 | 77 |
Relief Pitcher | 79 |
Closing Pitcher | 84 |
Catcher | 76 |
First Baseman | 70 |
Second Baseman | 79 |
Third Baseman | 77 |
Shortstop | 80 |
Left Fielder | 81 |
Center Fielder | 74 |
Right Fielder | 73 |
Outside of being a team that needs help at first base and right field, the Rays look to be pretty good. They're in the top ten in pitching, defense, and speed. Unfortunately, they're below-average in contact and one of the worst in the league in terms of power.
So a player that likes smacking home runs will find that the Rays desperately need somebody to put in the cleanup spot. Tampa Bay is the place to get a title for a city that is truly just one big hitter away from being special.
Miami Marlins
Position | Rating Of Best Player |
Starting Pitcher 1 | 90 |
Starting Pitcher 2 | 78 |
Starting Pitcher 3 | 77 |
Starting Pitcher 4 | 77 |
Starting Pitcher 5 | 75 |
Relief Pitcher | 74 |
Closing Pitcher | 77 |
Catcher | 77 |
First Baseman | 76 |
Second Baseman | 73 |
Third Baseman | 80 |
Shortstop | 71 |
Left Fielder | 72 |
Center Fielder | 88 |
Right Fielder | 72 |
The Marlins are a good team with a serious power outage problem. The team has plenty of speed and contact but lacks the presence of a player that can step up and drive these players home. A new shortstop could help this team as well, but they really need bat power above more fielding and speed.
Step in at right field and prepare to lead the league in RBIs. Even if the player's character hits for average, there should be plenty of runners in scoring position in Miami.
Minnesota Twins
Position | Rating Of Best Player |
Starting Pitcher 1 | 83 |
Starting Pitcher 2 | 81 |
Starting Pitcher 3 | 80 |
Starting Pitcher 4 | 78 |
Starting Pitcher 5 | 78 |
Relief Pitcher | 83 |
Closing Pitcher | 74 |
Catcher | 76 |
First Baseman | 74 |
Second Baseman | 79 |
Third Baseman | 74 |
Shortstop | 89 |
Left Fielder | 74 |
Center Fielder | 93 |
Right Fielder | 73 |
The Twins aren't considered one of the best teams in baseball and yet their roster is pretty solid. No player is lower than 73 and that is the right fielder. While the squad might not be capable of carrying anybody to a title, they aren't going to blow the game.
This is exactly what should excite a gamer that makes it to Minnesota. While the rest of the team keeps the game close, the player's character can drive in those winning runs and grab some easy walk-off wins.
Chicago White Sox
Position | Rating Of Best Player |
Starting Pitcher 1 | 89 |
Starting Pitcher 2 | 82 |
Starting Pitcher 3 | 81 |
Starting Pitcher 4 | 76 |
Starting Pitcher 5 | 74 |
Relief Pitcher | 74 |
Closing Pitcher | 84 |
Catcher | 74 |
First Baseman | 72 |
Second Baseman | 65 |
Third Baseman | 74 |
Shortstop | 79 |
Left Fielder | 78 |
Center Fielder | 82 |
Right Fielder | 71 |
The White Sox are dead last in the league in defense and not doing great in most other areas. The team has a huge need at second base but the White Sox have some decent contact hitters already. What they really need is some extra power on offense.
To shore up that defense, players who have great arms in the outfield should find that Chicago will allow plenty of baserunners. Throwing runners out tends to be a rare occurrence but there will be more opportunities here than in other places.
Detroit Tigers
Position | Rating Of Best Player |
Starting Pitcher 1 | 84 |
Starting Pitcher 2 | 79 |
Starting Pitcher 3 | 79 |
Starting Pitcher 4 | 75 |
Starting Pitcher 5 | 74 |
Relief Pitcher | 72 |
Closing Pitcher | 77 |
Catcher | 77 |
First Baseman | 68 |
Second Baseman | 77 |
Third Baseman | 64 |
Shortstop | 75 |
Left Fielder | 70 |
Center Fielder | 68 |
Right Fielder | 69 |
There are four players in Detroit with ratings in the 60s. Detroit desperately needs help at third base as well as first, center, and right. Still, playing for a team with this many issues has its advantages in the long term for gamers who stick the first few years out.
Great players act as beacons for free agents. If the player's character can start to turn things around in Detroit, then it's more likely that superstars will sign with the Tigers. When they do, they'll build the team around what the character brings to the table.
Kansas City Royals
Position | Rating Of Best Player |
Starting Pitcher 1 | 79 |
Starting Pitcher 2 | 76 |
Starting Pitcher 3 | 72 |
Starting Pitcher 4 | 72 |
Starting Pitcher 5 | 68 |
Relief Pitcher | 73 |
Closing Pitcher | 78 |
Catcher | 83 |
First Baseman | 76 |
Second Baseman | 68 |
Third Baseman | 70 |
Shortstop | 80 |
Left Fielder | 66 |
Center Fielder | 67 |
Right Fielder | 73 |
Like the Tigers, the Royals are rebuilding. However, they do have strengths when it comes to speed and defense. It's pitching and hitting that have doomed them recently. Needing another good starting pitcher and a few position players, somebody needs to step in as a superstar for the organization.
Right fielders in Kansas City will get all the prime and clutch at-bats since nobody else on the team is going to step up. Gamers justifiably don't like it when the major league team makes them share time and take days off. The Royals won't be doing that anytime soon.
MLB The Show 23 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
