The third update for MLB The Show 21 released this morning, which includes various bug fixes and improvements to Road To The Show mode. The update also features a few fixes to gameplay, created ballplayers, stadiums, and the created stadiums, which are only available on the next-gen version of the title. While most of the changes to Road To The Show are bug fixes, fans may notice a highly-requested feature has been added to the game mode.

Road To The Show players can now add additional pitches to the loadout through training sessions. Previously, pitching training sessions would only allow players to improve various pitching stats, or change the pitches in the loadout. After the MLB The Show 21 update, players will be able to have more than three pitches in their loadout.

One of the few complaints about Road To The Show mode was the three pitch loadout limit. Players reached high overall ratings and excellent relationships, only to find out that a 4th pitch could not be added. Given that most of the best pitchers in the game can have five different pitches, many players thought the created ballplayer limit may be a bug. Since the patch notes say that players will be able to "add additional pitches to your Ballplayer", it could indicate that players will be able to possibly unlock even more than a 4th pitch type.

The update also fixes a number of pitching bugs in Road To The Show. An issue with players would just stop pitching has been fixed, and the annoying bug in which the CPU subs out the player after one pitch has been fixed as well. Not only will pitching be greatly improved following the update, but loadout and progression issues have also been addressed.

Players reported persistent issues with player progression, especially in the Archetype Programs. A bug causing Archetype Program progress to track incorrectly has been addressed in the update. It seems there may have been a few issues with the Archetype Program, because there is also fixes for Archetype item progression, Archetype items not appearing in inventory, and loadout tracking issues. The ability to progress created ballplayers in multiple game modes is an amazing feature, and now that the bugs affecting this feature have been eliminated, progressing created ballplayers should be even more enjoyable.

There are a number of ways to progress created ballplayers. From playing Road To The Show games to taking on Showdowns in Diamond Dynasty, there are many great ways to improve your player in MLB The Show 21. Archetypes, equipment, training sessions, and in-game performance are all ways to raise that overall and become one of the best players to hit the field.

MLB The Show 21 is available now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
