Despite being more than a quarter of a century old, Reiko is actually one of the newer Mortal Kombat characters, at least when compared to some of the other kombatants that make up the starting roster of Mortal Kombat 1. However, this barbaric fighter is no less deadly than some of his more well-established counterparts and is driven by a desire to one day rule over all of Outerworld like Shao Kahn or Shang Tsung.

Reiko's first MK1 Fatality is called The Impaler and can be performed by pressing down, down, back, back punch from medium range. The finisher sees the ninja using his spear to slice off his opponent's arms and legs and then stabbing it deep into their chest. With the base of the spear pressed firmly into the ground, he then pulls the other kombatant down, causing the tip of the spear to come out of their mouth. Their body becomes separated, however, resulting in one of the most gory Fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1​​​​​.

To trigger Reiko's second Fatality, Mortal Kombat 1 players should press back, down, down, back kick while standing at close range. This will result in him snapping his opponent's hands off and using the splintered radius and ulna to stab them right through their face. He then snaps their spine by bending them over backward before reaching into their stomach and yanking out their spinal cord. He's still holding it during his victory pose, which he shares with his chosen Kameo fighter.
