Fatalities have always been one of the Mortal Kombat series' defining features, so their return in Mortal Kombat 1 shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise to anyone. Every playable kombatant has two Fatalities at their disposal, though, technically, only one of these is available to the player right from the get-go, with each fighter's second Fatality needing to be unlocked.

Unlocking new Fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1 can be a fairly time-consuming process, but it's well worth the effort for those looking to add a little extra style to their end-of-fight finishers. Players will also unlock a bunch of other useful goodies on their way toward unlocking their chosen kombatant's second Fatility, including new player cards, taunts, and Brutalities.

In order to unlock a kombatant's second Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1, players will simply need to increase their Fighter Mastery rank to a certain level. Unfortunately, the level at which new Fatalities are unlocked varies from fighter to fighter, so there's no one-size-fits-all rank for players to aim for. However, players can check upcoming rewards via the Mastery section of the stats screen to get an idea of how much further they have to go. It's also worth noting that players do not actually need to unlock a Fatality in order to be able to use it.

Granted, they will not be able to find a Fatality's button prompts in the menu until after they have unlocked it, but providing they know which buttons to press and where they need to be standing in order to perform them, players will be able to trigger every kombatant's second MK1 Fatality before they have actually unlocked them. Those hoping to do so can find links to individual guides for every playable Mortal Kombat 1 character below, where they'll find the required button prompts and a video showing what each Fatality looks like.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available now on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.
