Minecraft servers are often great options for players looking to interact and shape the world alongside others online. Sometimes, however, players find that their builds and bases have been destroyed or otherwise menaced by others. In a refreshing moment, u/criteriaz found a note rather than a wave of destruction when they returned to their accidently exposed base in Minecraft.

Minecraft has had servers since 2009 and these allow for players to jump into a shared world and collaborate. There are currently dozens and dozens of options for interested players with different rules, themes, and required mod packs. Back in 2013 Mojang announced the server-hosting service Minecraft Realms in which players could more easily run server multiplayer games.

In a wholesome moment, u/criteriaz shares a message they found in their base. The note must have been quite shocking as it immediately implied that their base had been discovered, potentially by a number of players. This survival realm base in Minecraft, though underground and well hidden, had been discovered because they left the entrance open. A dangerous move in an online server with the maximum amount of players. Fortunately it worked out this time around with a friendly reminder in place of the usual destruction. Now with a new setup in a different dimension, hopefully no more messages appear in u/criteriaz base.

As most people who play multiplayer games already know, the online world can be as wholesome as it is cruel. This mistake could have easily resulted in devastation to this player's base. Minecraft, as with most other games, isn't free from players who grief others. For that reason on a survival server in which resources have to be gathered, the fear of those players is reasonable. Even with griefer protection, it is hard to guarantee a more positive interaction than this note.

There will always be those players that feel as though a Minecraft survival server is akin to a jungle in which every player must fend for themselves. And that is certainly a valid approach in certain types of servers. Base raiding is perfectly legitimate when everyone consents to the rules and PvP is enabled.

But in Minecraft servers where collaboration and exploration is the emphasis instead, then griefers become a larger issue. Though an accidentally open base is a tempting target for some, it is clear that this message made u/criteriaz's day. And, judging by the reaction to the post, made other players days as well. Either way, u/criteriaz has moved and their items and base remains safe for the time being.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and various legacy platforms.
