Minecraft is a game that consistently gets new content, whether it is a new biome or dimension for players to explore or new blocks, and items for players to seek out. However, there is one big element of gaming that is yet to make its way into Mojang’s super-popular game: spellcraft. While Minecraft does give players the opportunity to enchant their tools, armor, and weapons, there are still many ways for the game to implement spells and magic, whether through spell books or even using an enchanted item such as a staff or wand.

Spells could become one of the most versatile abilities available to players as they can expand to include more than just attacking and defending, but could even benefit the player during building and mining. By including items such as staffs and wands, players will have more to look out for and also run into the possibility of finding these items already enchanted in loot chests across each dimension. There are numerous Minecraft mods that already utilize spells in some form, and this means that it is possible for Mojang to include these features in vanilla Minecraft.

Spellbooks

Spellbooks would be a great way to introduce magic into Minecraft, especially since they already play a vital role in the one form of magic that is currently in the game, enchanting. These books may need to be enchanted for players to create a spell book, which would also mean that there would be a new type of enchantment available to players. Further, players could use these books directly by having them held in their hand to be used, or they could work similarly to how spells work in Skyrim, where the book is destroyed once a player learns the spell.

Spellbooks could also be an item that is only found in the library room of Strongholds, making them incredibly rare. This would work well with the new bookshelf type that Minecraft will be adding during update 1.20. Whether through the enchanting table or found during exploration, spell books would be an extremely useful and enjoyable item in the game, giving players access to spells that can improve their attack, defense, and even exploration.

Enchanted Staffs and Wands

The other way that Mojang could implement spellcraft into Minecraft is by using items such as staffs and wands. Players could be able to enchant these items to allow them to use whatever spell is bound to them, in turn, creating new tools that will be carried by the player. Staffs and wands could be crafted using wood types found only in the Nether, making it a mid-to-late-game item, and giving players a challenge in obtaining them.

Staffs and Wands could be much more useful than books, mainly because they will act similar to other tools and weapons, with durability. This means that overusing the staffs and wands will break the item, forcing players to not only craft a new one, but also hope that the same spell appears in the enchanting table again. Further, to ensure that spellcraft in this form is not too overpowered, only a single spell could be assigned to a staff or wand, and enchantments such as unbreaking or mending could be barred from being added to these items.

Minecraft is a world where a player can use their imagination to create wonderful structures and explore a nearly endless world in the search of adventure. Whether through books or staffs and wands, spellcraft could improve attacking, and defending, and can even help with exploration and mining by using spells that could reduce fall damage or even improve the enchantments on pickaxes. Through mods, players have been able to play around with magic and spellcraft, and there is now a serious push for Mojang to include this in vanilla Minecraft.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
