Using chests to store items is a pivotal part of Minecraft, as the player's inventory can only hold so much. While the standard wooden chest is certainly useful, it does have its limitations. The biggest of these limitations is its lack of portability, as once a chest is placed, it can't be moved without taking all of the items inside out. For players looking for a solution to this conundrum, Shulker Boxes are the answer. These unique chests can be picked up just like a regular chest, but when they are destroyed the items inside don't come out. This allows for large amounts of items to be transported with ease.

As one might expect, crafting Shulker Boxes is no easy endeavor. This item is only obtainable from late game mobs in Minecraft, specifically the Shulkers that inhabit the End City. Players will need to find and kill several of these Shulkers in order to get the materials needed to craft Shulker Boxes.

The recipe for the Shulker Box is simple enough, as it only requires one chest and two Shulker Shells, but finding the latter will be a challenge. First, players will need to make it to the End, then they'll have to locate an End City. While there, look around at the purple blocks and keep an eye out for any that appear to move. These are Shulkers, and each one has a chance to drop a Shulker Shell. Players will want to kill them in just a few hits, as when they get weak, they will teleport away.

How to make Shulker Box

When crafting a Shulker Box, players need to put the ingredients in the correct order. Place the chest in the middle of the crafting table and then the two Shulker Shells above and below it. After crafting it, players can place the box down and fill it with whatever they want, as the items will stay inside it once it is broken. This is incredibly useful, but there are some limitations to keep in mind. For starters, Shulker Boxes cannot be combined into a large box like regular chests, meaning they can only ever hold 27 inventory slots. Likewise, they lack the unique capabilities of the Ender Chests as well.

The quest to craft a Shulker Box in Minecraft involves finding diamonds, braving the Nether, locating the Nether Fortress, getting Blaze Rods, hunting down Endermen, discovering the Stronghold, making it to the End, defeating the Ender Dragon, and finally stumbling across a Shulker or two. Whether this is worth the hassle is something each player will have to decide for themselves.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
