Highlights

  • Minecraft's Tricky Trials update introduced an efficient XP farm using Silverfish and Iron Golems.
  • This XP farm is possible thanks to the new "Infested" status effect in Minecraft.
  • Some speculate Mojang may patch this exploit in future updates due to its efficiency.

Almost everything in Minecraft can be farmed in plenty of different ways, but a new feature introduced with the game's newest Tricky Trials update has allowed for an entirely new method of collecting tons of XP points fast. This resource is easily one of the most valuable to be found in Minecraft, and experience levels are necessary for players to enchant and upgrade their gear, tools, and weapons.

Since Minecraft sets players loose in a world where they can essentially build whatever they can imagine, it's not much of a surprise that many gamers immediately go about setting up resource farms to expedite their journeys toward getting fully upgraded Netherite gear. The complexity, efficiency, and overall mechanism of any given farm are mostly limited only by player creativity, with the game giving fans more than enough methods of processing Minecraft mobs into loot with brutal efficiency.

Minecraft's New Mace Highlights One Missing Weapon Update

Minecraft's Tricky Trials update added the new mace weapon with several unique enchantments, a feature that should be added to the classic axe.

As of Minecraft's Tricky Trials update, the game's latest major content drop that launched in June, players now have the ability to construct one of the most effective XP farms ever conceived. A fan known online only by the title of EpicGamer3786 recently shared their own version of the farm, which functions on the premise of spawning huge numbers of Silverfish from an Iron Golem. This is possible thanks to the new "Infested" status effect, which causes Silverfish to appear from an affected mob. A few different variations of this farm have already been posed by players, but this farm uses a total of 11 Infestation-afflicted Iron Golems to spawn hordes of Silverfish out into a pit where they can then be killed and harvested for XP.

How This Minecraft XP Farm Works

Many other players have demonstrated variants of this farm that are even more efficient, with many Minecraft players using Allays as the designated Silverfish hosts due to them having innate regenerative capabilities. These sorts of farms can also be outfitted with potion dispensers to fully automate the process, though players should be mindful that the sheer number of Silverfish that can be spawned from this method can have a severe impact on the game's performance.

Some members of the Minecraft community speculate that this exploit will be patched in a future update by Mojang, out of concern about the farm design simply being too efficient and easy to set up. The Infested effect isn't the only new status effect introduced with Minecraft's 1.21 update, with some of the other new effects offering fans new ways of farming other resources such as slime balls, too.
