What Minecraft allows players to do, with its roster of tools and widespread digital canvas, is unleash their potential in an expanding and blocky landscape of almost endless possibilities. The game provides so much breathing space for projects to be realized, and there is even, for example, a group recreating the United Kingdom in Minecraft on a 1:1 scale. There are many giant builds that fans can create, and one user has taken literally months to pursue their creation, which has left a lot of commenters staggered.

Uploading a time-lapse video to the Minecraft subreddit recently, user AhRayWasTaken has been hard at work creating an enormous structure, which involves both a sculpture and an utterly massive pyramid that encases it. The clip shows a sped up version of the process, beginning with a giant hand holding what appears to be a coffin. The user then moves on, in speedy fashion, to building the aforementioned pyramid on the outside. The rapid way the day/night cycle zooms on by throughout the course of the video gives some indication of how long the project took.

When asked in the comments, AhRayWasTaken said that it took them around two months to complete the whole thing, 92 hours of which were spent just clearing the land to make room for the build. According to the original poster, the second account recording the construction collected 208 hours of footage. In terms of giant builds done in Minecraft, this one is definitely up there, impressive in its scope. The size of the creation is such that, when seen from a distance, the landscape simply fades away, which gives some idea of just how far back the camera needs to be pulled to get the whole thing in shot.

As a video game with one of the biggest map sizes ever, it's hardly surprising that fans are able to find the space to build such lofty creations. It's impressive more so that many are dedicated to their ambitious projects, as it seems evident that these things can take weeks, months, or even years to finalize.

With the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 update going live last year, the height of the overall world has been extended from 256 blocks to 320. As Minecraft already has near-infinite replayability, the fact that the physical space that players can build up to has been increased means that there is even more potential for builders to create enormous structures. It will be interesting to see what literal heights fans will reach next.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
