There can be little doubt in anyone's mind that Minecraft is still going strong, still as popular today as when it was released more than 10 years ago. With the Mojang-created blocky game smashing 200 million in sales last year, it's hardly surprising that it's become one of the biggest titles in recent gaming history. Much of that longevity can be attested to the community, who keep things ticking over with all many of creative builds. Recently, a fan has posted an image of something nautical that they've managed to make in-game.
The image was uploaded to the Minecraft subreddit, and showcases user nrgmix's skills in building huge, complex structures. In this case, they've built a huge ship, specifically it looks like a pirate ship which the creator calls "L'Ariadel" which, according to Google Translate, means "the air of" or "the wind of." The edited image shows the impressive-looking ship on the high seas, battling against the harsh waves as birds fly above.
People in the thread left comments of praise, with the top post insisting that the image could become one of Minecraft's in-game paintings, with its pixel art style and bright colors. A couple of other people did wonder whether nrgmix had used any building tools to help them complete the ship. Editing software is quite common in Minecraft, and often used in many large-scale builds, such as people using Worldedit which has been used in the creation of huge builds like the ambitious Star Wars project. One other commenter did actually doubt whether the image was the original poster's, but a quick Google search put that theory to rest, which goes to show how impressive it is.
The creator of this ship neither confirmed nor denied whether they'd used Worldedit or another tool, but they did say that they'd made the image in Photoshop. They then posted a link to another series of images, which shows each stage of the build, which also includes the water and ground underneath. While there are guides which show people how to make boats in Minecraft, nrgmix's contribution takes it many magnitudes further by building something of impressive size, and with fantastic detail as well.
The fan base is a honeypot of creativity, with some users spending years on their Minecraft projects. The game's building mechanics and sandbox gameplay turn the game into a blank canvas in which people like nrgmix and others can dedicate their free time to some of the most amazing structures, some of which leave the community in awe. It remains to be seen just what players will come up with next.
