The oceans of Minecraft are filled with a variety of rare and obscure items for crafting. While some are hidden at the bottom of the ocean, others must be specifically obtained through other means. Minecraft fans often discover one or two of these items accidentally, but only the Nautilus Shell can craft a Conduit.

The small shell looks like a sea snail's shell and is colored tan with red lines. It is a rare item that can be stacked up to 64 times and is considered renewable within Minecraft's game files. While the item only has a few uses, players hoping to obtain the power of a Conduit will need several of these to craft one block.

Fishing

While rare, Minecraft players can obtain this item through fishing. By default, the Nautilus Shell has only a 0.8% chance of appearing. This can be increased using Luck of the Sea enchantments, which will slightly increase the player's odds. With one level of the enchantment, there is a 1.2% chance, two levels have a 1.5% chance, and three levels have a 1.9% chance. By far, this is the most time-consuming method of finding the shell.

Mob Drop

The second method is to battle the Drowned under the water. The Drowned in Minecraft have only a 3% chance in Java Edition and an 8% chance in Bedrock Edition of spawning with a Nautilus Shell.

On the bright side, if the mob does spawn with a shell, players are guaranteed to claim it after the creature's death. Keep in mind that the Drowned can be found in oceans and rivers and use both melee and ranged attacks. Farming the Drowned for Nautilus shells is a common practice in Minecraft's Bedrock Edition.

The third option is to find a Wandering Trader throughout the world. Occasionally, Wandering Traders will sell a Nautilus Shell for 5 emeralds. While there is not always a Nautilus Shell available, players should check back often as the Wandering Trader will often return with new items in stock. They can easily be spotted in the distance escorting their iconic dual llamas across the Minecraft landscape.

To use the Nautilus Shell, players will need to collect 8 of them and align them with the center block empty. In the center, place a Heart of the Sea crystal to craft the Conduit. The Conduit can be used in a 3x3x3 block of water and provides a resource known as "Conduit Power." This restores oxygen, grants night vision, and increases mining speed for those around them. This effect expands to 16 blocks for every seven blocks in the frame and can extend further if built at a larger scale.

Minecraft is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and various other platforms.
