Minecraft's impending Wild Update comes with a lot of strong new features, including the fearsome Warden mob and new blocks that'll make swamps for more interesting to explore. Minecraft fans who love to explore the overworld in Survival will be particularly interested in the Deep Dark biome's ancient cities, cryptic underground structures overrun with sculk that hide rare loot. Even though Minecraft is largely designed to emphasize the player's creative choices, the game's adventure aspects can't be underestimated. The ancient cities showcase the value in providing Minecraft players with dungeon-like structures that include rare items and thematic enemies found in few other places.

That's why Mojang should consider revisiting the desert pyramids and jungle temples in a future Minecraft update. Both of these structures have been in Minecraft for years, serving as charming details to some of the game's less hospitable biomes, as well as sources of some hard-to-find plunder. However, as Minecraft has expanded and added more elaborate objectives for its players, these places feel increasingly trivial. Since Mojang is already refreshing so many familiar parts of the game lately, it might as well consider upgrading Minecraft's desert pyramids and jungle temples. These landmarks deserve to feature bigger risks and rewards alike.

Upgrading Minecraft's Desert and Jungle Objectives

Minecraft Desert Pyramid

Desert pyramids and jungle temples have interesting designs in terms of architecture, but in terms of adventure, they're very limited. Each of them only has a couple rooms and a single trap that separates the player from some treasure. Because of this, these classic Minecraft locales generally only take a minute or two to explore, meaning they're ultimately little more than elaborate houses for treasure chests. Luckily, Mojang already has the perfect blueprint for improving both of these locations. Minecraft's spooky woodland mansions are far more robust thanks to their diverse structures, unique enemies, and special loot.

Ideally, a future Minecraft update will make the pyramids and temples follow the lead of Woodland Mansions. Both of these locations should be randomly generated from a list of predesigned rooms, meaning each pyramid and temple is unique. Woodland mansions also house a variety of unique mobs in the form of illager variants, meaning they pose special combat challenges to Minecraft players. Desert pyramids would be the perfect home for new mummy mobs, while jungle temples could house plant-based monsters. Both locations deserve unique items in the style of the Totem of Undying, which is most consistently found from the woodland mansion's Evokers.

Bringing Minecraft Up to Date

Minecraft Jungle Pyramid

Minecraft certainly already has a few compelling landmarks to explore, such as ocean monuments and strongholds, alongside the aforementioned woodland mansions. These huge structures all have an air of mystery and offer their own unique challenges. Still, there's no harm in diversifying the list of large structures that players can discover and explore. Looming pyramids and sprawling temples that dot Minecraft landscapes would be worthy, unique additions to the list of dungeon-like Minecraft locations. Minecraft could stand to gain a lot by bringing familiar generated structures up to the modern standard.

Neither deserts nor jungles have received a major update like the Wild Update's swamp changes recently, so changes to pyramids and jungle temples could be on the horizon. Mojang has consistently seemed interested in refreshing old parts of Minecraft in recent years, and the Wild Update certainly suggest that that pattern won't break anytime soon, even as Minecraft also gains entirely new biomes and structures. Both of these Minecraft biomes could definitely use new geographical features, mobs, or block types, but the temples and pyramids seem like they should be a priority above all. They may be classic buildings in their own right, but they have a lot of untapped potential.

Minecraft is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
