Minecraft is known for its wide collection of different items and blocks that make up an entire world. While they are all not created equal, each player will have a different opinion about how important certain items are to them when attempting to survive.

What's great about attempting to find different blocks and items throughout Minecraft is that they can be found beyond just the regular Overworld. In fact, many important resources can also be found in the Nether. One item that can both be found in the Nether, and can be crafted using materials found in the dimension, is the Fire Charge.

How To Obtain The Fire Charge

Blaze in Minecraft

There are a few different routes players can take to obtain a Fire Charge in Minecraft. But only one method guarantees obtaining it, and that is by crafting it. To do this, players will need to go to the Nether and kill a Blaze. Doing so will drop a Blaze Rod. At a crafting table, the Blaze Rod can be placed and then broken apart into Blaze Powder.

Then, the player will need to obtain coal in the Overworld caves. If they have trouble with this, they can also smelt some wooden logs to create charcoal. Finally, players should get gunpowder from a Creeper or random chest. Placing one Blaze Powder, one coal/charcoal, and one gunpowder into the crafting bench will create three Fire Charges.

There are a few other methods players can try to get a Fire Charge. One is by stumbling upon a Ruined Portal in the Overworld. These appear on a somewhat frequent basis and will almost always have a chest right next to it amongst the Netherrack. Players will have a 46.4% chance of having a Fire Charge spawn in the chest. There is also a chance that players can barter with a Piglin using gold ingots to retrieve a Fire Charge.

What To Do With A Fire Charge

Fireworks in Minecraft

There are both beautiful and dangerous ways to use a Fire Charge in Minecraft. Those looking to live dangerously can use a Fire Charge to ignite fires, which can also be done in a couple ways. Players can use the Fire Charge as a replacement for Flint and Steel. This means using the item on a block will light it on fire, which means it can light TNT and Nether Portals.

On top of that, it can also be fired out of a dispenser. This is similar to a Blaze firing a fireball at a player. If it makes a direct hit on any living entity, it can deal up to nine hearts of damage through both the direct hit plus additional loss of health from the fire. Unlike Ghast Fireballs, these Fire Charges can't be deflected.

There is a less dangerous method of using Fire Charges, and that is turning them into Fireworks. Combining a Fire Charge with a single piece of gunpowder and a specific-colored dye can turn the charge into a Firework Star. This star can then be placed in a crafting table with a piece of paper and some gunpowder to create a Firework Rocket that can be fired into the sky.
