Players familiar with Minecraft's survival gameplay will also be more than familiar with the game's abundance of hostile mobs, ready to hunt down the player when night falls. Throughout the years, this cast of hostile mobs has steadily been expanded by Mojang as well, adding new enemies like Illagers, Piglin Brutes, and more to keep things fresh and interesting.
That said, some of the game's older mobs are long overdue for a bit of a revamp. Some things could be changed to make them scarier, more powerful, or just more meaningful in Minecraft. Other mobs, which are more recent, have the potential to be something more but remain somewhat unengaging to deal with. Here are the hostile mobs that need an upgrade in Minecraft.
6 Phantom
A mob that seems highly unpopular is the Phantom, a mantis-like creature that flies in the skies when the player hasn't slept for three nights straight. The biggest question seems to be why Mojang felt the need to add this mob in the first place, given that it's more of an annoyance than something fun, scary, or exciting to engage with.
Now, granted, Phantoms do drop an important resource: Phantom Membrane. This is used to repair the Elytra, so perhaps this is Mojang's way of balancing things out in Minecraft. That said, given their lack of popularity among players, it's clear that they're something that pulls players out of their in-game immersion rather than increasing that immersion.
5 Slime
Slimes on this list might be controversial. Granted, this mob looks iconic and its appearance and animation need no changing at all. What does need changing is the "lore" around it, where to find it easily, other than the swamp biome, which is considered its natural habitat.
Most players will be familiar with slime chunks, which are an aspect of the game that isn't baked into the in-game lore. Wouldn't it be cool if slimes had their own mini biome underground where slime chunks are located? Granted, this could also backfire given the abundance of slime chunks, but it's something worth considering.
Another change to the slime could be adding more variants in terms of biomes, such as blue and red slimes. Perhaps even the ability to breed them, which would be a nice tip of the hat to Slime Rancher.
4 Ravager
The Ravager is a mob players will likely only see if they happen to walk into a village while carrying the Bad Omen status debuff. This will immediately start a raid of several waves, and one of the enemy types players will need to deal with is the mighty Ravager.
The good thing about the Ravager is that it drops 20 XP orbs and looks decent. The bad thing is that it only drops a saddle. If there's one mob out there that has the potential to get some type of better loot drop, it would be the Ravager, which is undoubtedly one of the tankiest mobs in a raid.
3 Magma Cube
Earlier, this list mentioned slimes, and in that same vein, it's only right to talk about easily the most boring hostile Nether mob: the Magma Cube. Magma Cubes aren't exactly a threat to players, and other than their unique appearance and ability to swim in lava, as well as the Magma Cream loot drop, they're not very interesting or threatening.
And yet, there's a whole biome dedicated to Magma Cubes. Perhaps a stronger variant of them could be made, or maybe the Magma Cube could get some sort of additional ability, like being able to spit out a glob of fire or lava, similarly to the Blaze, but with a shorter range.
2 Zombie
Zombies being on this list might be a controversial take as well, given how iconic their appearance is, but zombies really haven't gone through much of a change throughout the years and are easily the most overdue for something new.
The good thing is, they do have two variants: Drowned and Husks. There are even Zombie Villagers in the game, and Baby Zombies that move at a terrifying speed. That said, there's something about them that still feels a bit bland and boring, which makes them the least desirable mob to farm for loot drops.
1 Ender Dragon
The Ender Dragon is understandably a mob that Mojang doesn't want to touch, given it represents a big chunk of Minecraft's lore. And that's okay, the Ender Dragon is fine as it is, but players who have stayed with the game for years will agree that the Ender Dragon fight is sort of a snorefest.
Perhaps it's time that Mojang decides to do something drastic. Maybe the mechanics of the fight need a change? Maybe the boss arena could be different? Maybe the Ender Dragon just needs a new, better appearance with more detailed textures, new attacks, and animations? Given how the block textures were changed not long ago, even just a visual change could make the good ol' Ender Dragon feel a bit more relevant again.
