There's no denying that, from its humble beginnings with one single person developing it, Minecraft has become one of the most successful games in history, second only to the likes of Tetris. With the Mojang-made blocky title breaking sales records, the open world game is pulling in millions of players each month, and doesn't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down. However, despite the enormity of it, there are some people who are less than pleased with the console version of the game, and have been expressing such opinions online.

In a recent post on Reddit, user FromMilkyWay opened up a debate about the Xbox port of Minecraft, beginning the title of the thread "sorry for the rant" before delving into the reasons they think this version of the mighty game is "such a joke." They go on to list numerous faults with it, such as long loading times just on the menu, no Quick Resume, only 1080p resolution, as well as errors on the marketplace. Although it was quickly pointed out that the PlayStation version also has 1080p resolution, with 4K being reserved for PC, others in the comments seemed in agreement.

One person posited that with Minecraft now on Xbox Game Pass for PC, it could encourage Microsoft to put "pressure on Mojang," perhaps to look into some of the issues pointed out by FromMilkyWay. Some began to debate the merits of the Java version versus the Bedrock version, with the former being what the original game was built in, and the latter being the one developed in C++, and features cross-play and is supposed to be better performing overall. One of the advantages of the Java version is that it supports mods, something that is important in the PC community, but perhaps less so for console gamers.

One of the other issues commenters discussed, though it wasn't mentioned by the original poster of the thread, was ray tracing in Minecraft which came to the game last December for PC. Currently, the Xbox ports do not support this feature, although there are talks of it coming to Xbox Series X/S at some point.

Even though Minecraft is one of the highest-grossing games of the last ten years, there are clearly some who feel the console versions, not just Xbox, are inferior, with some even saying these ports are buggy when compared to the game on PC. Whether Microsoft/Mojang will rectify these issues is anyone's guess, but it doesn't seem to have slowed down the enormous success of it any.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
