The decision to make a spin-off in the style of Minecraft Dungeons makes a lot of sense. After all, Minecraft is popular and so are dungeon crawlers. Ever since Minecraft Dungeons was announced in 2019, fans have waited patiently for it to release. Unfortunately, players will have to wait a little longer, as the April launch has been pushed back to May 26.

With many games being pushed back lately, the delay doesn't come as a surprise. As predicted, the game was delayed due to coronavirus—though, its delay isn't nearly as long as some other games'. The April release window wasn't firmly set, so the possibility of a delay was always being considered—however, the pandemic seems to have forced Mojang's hand.

When looking back, it's hard not to call Minecraft one of the past decade's most played games. It's a tremendously successful game, and much of that is likely to transfer over to Minecraft Dungeons. So, with a relatively short delay and the benefit of Minecraft's name recognition, Minecraft Dungeons' success shouldn't be hampered too much.

Of course, the delay of Minecraft Dungeons is still disappointing, regardless of how short the wait is. Early looks at Minecraft Dungeons' gameplay are encouraging, so many fans can't wait to see how it plays themselves. Having to wait nearly two months for the game is unfortunate, but necessary—and, in the meantime, there's always more Minecraft to play.

Minecraft: Dungeons releases on May 26 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
