The Minecraft Mob Vote is back again, with fans speculating about what the crab might bring to the table. One Reddit user designed mockups for three different ways the crab's claw may be able to help players.

The poll has become a tradition for Mojang in recent years. Each one showcases three new creatures, with only one making it into Minecraft, while others are left on the bench with no guarantee of returning. 2023 features the crab, armadillo, and penguin, with the vote opening on October 15.

The crab is advertised to drop its claw, which can expand the range in which players will be able to place blocks. While other players are building bases in honor of crabs, u/AbacateApple looks to be rooting for crustaceans with a theory on how the claw may function in-game. Currently, it is unclear if the claw will act as a held or equippable item.

The first two images show the claw acting as a grapple. This would theoretically allow Steve and Alex to hook onto a distant block without the need to be grounded and then place blocks with this extra mobility. Following the next two graphics, the claw may act as more of a blaster. Such an item could be used as a weapon similar to a Minecraft bow, as players would seemingly fire an uninterruptible block to a target location.

Finally, the last picture looks to be the most unique implementation. Steve is shown either wearing the claws as boots or using them as a stepladder. Either way, this looks to be the most literal way to extend the block placement range.

Fellow users took to the comment section to express their own thoughts on the crab and its claw. The current top comment says, "The correct answer is: none of the above." Though commending AbacateApple's work, the user theorized the item will act as a passive buff to placement range when held. Another compared it to Terraria, one of many Minecraft-inspired games, with their use of an item called the Extendo Grip. Others considered the possibility of a potion ingredient that may create a "potion of reach."

Regardless of how the claw may actually be implemented, players seem to be hopeful for what may come with the new mob. As the crab still has to actually win Mojang's poll, voters have to consider what the penguin and armadillo will offer instead. While the penguin assists with sea mobility, the armadillo will drop resources that can protect friendly wolves. Not all hope is lost for those that lose the Mob Vote, as modders may surprise players by adding the two losers in the game.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
