When it comes to transportation in Minecraft, players have a lot of options. Between using rails and minecarts to freight goods, riding horses, creating ice tunnels, and just plain old walking, there's no shortage of ways to get around. Despite this, Redditor oaleksander took it upon themselves to come up with something new. Using just a boat, a ton of cows, some wheat, and their own grit and determination, cow surfing was invented. Effectively, the player surfs atop the cows on a boat, using the wheat to get the throng of bovines to go where they are needed.

To be fair, others have tried this stunt before, but this is the most recent and widely recognized attempt at it. Fans seem to love this zany idea, and some of them are even going into conversations amongst themselves about the efficiency of using cows for quick transport. Minecraft has always been a game that lets players do whatever they want, but this is something else entirely.

In the video below, oaleksander positions themself atop a short stack of blocks so that they are looking down on the hordes of cows below them. After placing the boat down on top of this stack, the player then pulls out some wheat, attracting the cows instantly. At this point, it's a simple matter of rowing the boat off this block, and surprisingly, the player actually landed on the backs of these cows. They are then able to row around the sea of cows as if it were water, and the speed is actually quite impressive.

It is necessary to slow down every now and then to allow the cows time to catch up, but this problem is diminished by simply adding more cows. After collecting enough cows in the gaggle, oaleksander is then able effectively do donuts in their boat atop cows. If that isn't the strangest thing written today, then who knows what is. This is also somehow faster than a lot of other methods of overworld travel in Minecraft.

As previously mentioned, many players are getting involved in the logistics of creating cow surfing paths for better travel, but a majority of commenters are simply making cow puns. Some of these are pretty funny, with the top comment being simply "Cowabunga!" There's no doubt that more and more players are going to attempt this in their own games now, so expect to see quite a bit of cow surfing in the future. Even if it isn't the most efficient method of getting around, the style points easily make up for it. It's a wonder that there are so many video game cow-related shenanigans going on right now.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
