One of the oldest tameable mobs in Minecraft and certainly one of the most helpful, the cat mob has been the chosen pet of many players over the years. While this mob initially appeared after players tamed the now wild ocelot, transforming into one of three possible skins, in recent years this pet has gotten a perfect update.

Minecraft’s New Wolf Skins, Ranked

Wolves in Minecraft have finally received a long-requested update, bringing in multiple new Wolf skins found in all kinds of biomes around the world.

With the release of the 1.14 update in 2019, a total of 11 different and updated cat skins were featured in the game, breathing some air and meeting long-demanded player hopes for the mob. Although every cat behaves the same regardless of what it looks like, and every cat has the same spawning requirements, some skins for the cat are older than others. Ranked from oldest to newest, the age of every version of the cat allows players to further appreciate their complete catalog.

11 Tuxedo

A Classic Addition

Minecraft Cat Tuxedo

Part of the original three skins for the tamed ocelot version of the cat, the tuxedo skin looks as the name suggests, sporting black fur with a white chest. While one of the simpler cat designs, this variety of feline does stick out well against the often colorful village locations.

Beyond being one of the original cat skins, the tuxedo cat specifically is also based on a cat of one of Minecraft's creators, Jeb.

10 Red

Orange Cat Energy

Minecraft Cat Red

Another original cat skin, the red or orange cat adds a splash of color against the muted and neutral tones of the first three cat variants.

While the behavior of this cat doesn't differ from any other cat version, the bright orange nature of this skin makes it easy to spot in any village throughout the world, whether in the desert or in the snow.

9 Siamese

Transformed Ocelots

Minecraft Cat Siamese

The last of the original cat skins, the Siamese may have a simple design compared to the striped red cat or the dual-tone tuxedo cat but still manages to capture the sleek and fancy feel of the real-life breed.

While this skin may be harder to spot from a distance than other cats, the piercing blue eyes paired with the siamese does help it stand out for players exploring villages.

8 British Shorthair

New Village Inhabitant

Minecraft Cat British Shorthair

A steely gray color, the British shorthair skin for cats in Minecraft shouldn't be too hard for players to find when exploring numerous villages.

Minecraft's Scariest Enemy Should Stretch Its Legs a Bit

Minecraft should create more opportunities for encounters with this frightening, fascinating monster instead of keeping it down in the Deep Dark.

Since villages only spawn in plains, savanna, taiga, meadows, snowy plains, and desert biomes, spotting such a neutrally toned cat against grass, sand, or snow blocks isn't too tricky.

7 Black

A Witchy Familiar

Minecraft Cat Black

The only cat found in multiple locations throughout the world, the black cat can be found in both the standard village alongside other cats as well as witch huts in swamps. With such attention to detail for the spookiest cat skin, the black cat often feels like a reward for finding swamps and the deadly witches within.

While this cat skin doesn't offer anything different despite where it's most famously found, the witchy connection of the black cat still offers players a fun way of getting a cat that feels special compared to the rest.

6 Calico

A Colorful Cat Option

Minecraft Cat Calico

One of the most colorful cat skins, the calico adds splashes of color no matter what biome and village it's found in. With the classic combination of three fur styles, black, orange, and white, the calico is practically impossible to miss for players wandering through villages.

5 Persian

The Blockiest Cat

Minecraft Cat Persian

Perhaps the most Minecraft-appropriate cat design in the game, the Persian cat skin is easily the funniest cat design. The only cat with a different model, the Persian cat feels almost like a parody in the game.

Unlike any other cat, the Persian doesn't have a muzzle feature on the model, making its face even more square and blocky, perfect for the extremely blocky game itself.

4 Ragdoll

The Convenience Of Finding Cats

Minecraft Cat Ragdoll

A cat skin that translates well to the actual breed, the ragdoll cat toes the line between an easy-to-spot version of the classic pet and one that could easily blend into a village environment.

Minecraft adds new mobs, biomes, and a plethora of things as part of its Poisonous Potato Snapshot to celebrate April Fools Day.

Having the implied facial colorpoint as seen with the ragdoll breed in real life, the cat in Minecraft offers players a simply colored cat.

3 Tabby

Camouflaged Fur

Minecraft Cat Tabby

With one of the more textured skin designs for a cat in Minecraft, the tabby variant is also one of the hardest-to-spot cats in most villages, thanks to its brown coat.

One of the only cats with implied curly or fuzzy fur, the tabby sticks out even compared to other detailed cat skins with how much detail is given even on a standard skin.

2 White

An Easy-To-Spot Option

Minecraft Cat White

One of the numerous new cat skins, the white cat is one of the more striking options compared to the rest. While this feline easily blends into villages found in snowy areas, in any other environment it is one of the easiest cats to spot from a distance.

Featuring heterochromia, this cat is one of the more unique skins to collect for the Complete Catalog advancement, as no other cat has mismatched eyes.

1 Jellie

An Immortalized Victor

Minecraft Cat Jellie

When the new cat skins were revealed for the update, Minecraft announced that another cat would be added based on the community voting on cats submitted by community members. Of the many cats submitted and that placed in the final rounds of the vote, the winner ended up being Jellie, the cat of Youtuber GoodTimesWithScar.

While the cat was added officially in Minecraft version 1.16 in 2020, Jellie has since passed away in January 2024. Much like the tuxedo cat, Jellie's inclusion in the game now also works as a memorial to the winner of the community-wide vote.
