One Minecraft fan shared their artistry with a drawing of five axolotls depicted as Pokemon. Minecraft remains one of the most popular games available and has outlasted the test of time, continuing to evolve and introduce new features and creatures alike. One introduction, the axolotl, has become quite popular among Minecraft players, and leading to plenty of fan art as a result.

The axolotl is a paedomorphic salamander, closely related to the tiger salamander, and were originally discovered in several lakes in Mexico City, such as Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco. In the video game world, Minecraft axolotls exist in Lush Cave rivers, and come in five colored variations; Lucy, Wild, Gold, Cyan and Blue.

Reddit user Jinetixx shared a photo showcasing the five different colors of Minecraft axolotl designed like Pokemon, in a post that has accumulated over 3,000 upvotes within the first twelve hours of activity. The original content art designs display all five colors with different poses and attitudes, drawing in many fans of both franchises to discuss similarities between the lovable creatures and their Pokemon counterparts. While this isn't the first time a Minecraft player posted an original idea, it's the first instance of a fusion between the two entities and has garnered interest among the subreddit users. The Pokemon-inspired art is being linked to Eeveelutions, the many Eevee-line evolutions obtainable in the Pokemon franchise, but some have referred to the characters as Axolutions.

Thanks to the Minecraft axolotl coming in five different colors, Jinetixx took the opportunity to come up with five different designs, with some closely resembling existing Pokemon. The orange and yellow axolotl looks oddly familiar to Flareon, while the blue axolotl could be mistaken for Vaporeon, the water-evolution form of Eevee. Meanwhile, the cyan variation resembles the second-generation Wooper, and the brown one found on the second row appears to be inspired by Clodsire, the Paldean-form evolution of Wooper. The originality is just one of many examples of Minecraft players showcasing their creativity, but also indicates how the game remains a popular title in the gaming community after its introduction in 2011.

As of this writing, Jinetixx's post has amassed close to 100 comments, with the majority of them being positive and somewhat comical. Certain users have made attempts at guessing which Pokemon the axolotl are inspired by, while others adore the cute designs and the particularly mischievous nature of the pink-colored axolotl. Not exclusive to the Minecraft franchise, the axolotl creature can also be found in Cult Of The Lamb as a playable character, though it doesn't share the same thoughtless expression nor does it hold the same popularity. Perhaps one day in the future, an axolotl-based Pokemon will be introduced to the world of catchable monsters, bringing this fusion full circle.

Minecraft is available on 3DS, Mobile, PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
